I've ordered a set of Hogue rubber and some HKS speedloaders for it. I would post pics, but I've gotta pick it up in the morning. Silly delays. Does anyone know of a decent retention or thumb break holster for the SP101? Excellent Revolver. |

Of course someone will come along shortly who bought one for $100 back in 1987 so there's no way one could be worth $395 today! |

Bianchi 5BH, but that's more for bumming around, not CCW.
Of course, I'm a big guy and I don't like tight clothes. I just stick the whole thing in my front pocket and use it like a pocket holster. |

I have the 3 1/16" barreled version.
It's a bitch with full power .357 mag loads. First time at the range the little fucker skinned my knuckle and send blood dripping down my hand. Since then I wear gloves.

Go to Wal-mart and buy a box of Remington .357 Magnum, 125 grain SJHPs. Oh, and a glove. Enjoy.

I paid like $245 for a DA only SP 101...new on sale...but it's been a number of years back...'98..'99...mighta been a Y2K gun  ..it disappeared into my wifes armaments pile  ...Seen it the other day though in her office desk at her business.

I've had mine since about 1991? I've tried to get rid of it but in the end it's just too cool of a little revolver to let go. It's now the only .357 I own. I've fired some hellacious loads from my SP101 that tied up my S&W model 66 but was perfectly acceptable in the little Ruger. You can get quite the fireball out of the little 2.25" barrel and a stout load.

Today, I picked up a bunch of .38SPL for plinking, some Remington 125gr. JSPs, some Remington 158gr. JHPs, and some of the 125gr. Cor-Bon DPX.
I think I'll order some of Buffalo Bore's 158gr. hard casts for punching on the steel. |

I'm still thinking about the Ruger SP101. Great beater.
That's a decent price. Only thing I can say about the Ruger line of pistols is they are built like a tank but ugly as sin (Semi Autos). |

I just got a 2 1/4" last week and took it to the range yesterday. I went from 110 gr. 38 to 158 gr 357 +p Deestoppers. I do have the Hogues on mine-I would think it would make a big difference. The 158 gr. was a "trip"-more on the flash than recoil. I think I'm going to run either 110 gr. 357 or 125 gr. JHP +p for carry purpose.

Hurts like hell, and I've never had that problem with any other revolver. |

All I can offer is, if you're gonna shoot much .357, be glad it's a heavy fireplug if a gun. Light .38 Special isn't much of an issue, but I found .357 to be pretty unpleasant. I couldn't imagine how some hot .357 would feel in a scandium S&W. Guys that shoot that shit are better men than me.

The only caveat is that while the older LG101 hard plastic Crimson Trace model draw very easily from a pocket carry, those grips hurt like a *&(*%&*(&# when fired with 158gr .357 CCI Lawmans. I recommend the softer,overmolded model. The factory Ruger grips are actually pretty nice with .357 loads. Not as nice as my old GP100,but not bad at all for handling recoil. |

Just back from the new indoor range in Lynchburg, VA. Holy shit yes! I love this thing. I swapped out the factory grips for Hogue rubber and the thing just fits like a glove. I fed it .357 fodder the entire hour. 50rnds of Fiocchi 125gr. JHP, 50rnds of Remington 125gr. JSP, and 25rnds. of 140gr. Hornady FTX.
I'll still have to practice with a few hundred rounds of .38SPL and +P, but I'm in love with this thing. I dunno, I guess I can just tame the beast. Here is my old Taurus 605 with Speer 158gr. .357 JHPs. 605 |

I have the Hogue rubber grips too. I can shoot .38 Special loads all day, and lighter .357 Mag loads like Golden Sabers, but the heavy loads are a bitch.

I have the same gun, bought it from a buddy years ago for $250, he needed rent money and intended to buy it back, but never did. I think it's wirth more.
Great gun, but mine has a pretty heavy trigger pull for my taste. My first real snubby.

Good price, great choice! I'm on my second sp101 (sold the first to fund a smith & wesson chief's special - decided the ruger is a better gun). I have alot of guns, and i find this is the one I carry and use the most.

I have not had any of the issues with full power loads in my sp101. I have big hands and a tight grip. I will have to try some of those remington loads.
