A friend just sent me this series of pics... it's really insane! Check it out; I don't know how these guys made it through in one piece! Not only did they get through, but they went right back to work!!

Was that off of VA in the 70s?  Our ship LST1193 bent her derrick arms on a day like that.

A friend of mine sent me that in e-mail awhile back. LOL, I bet the crew said "OH, SHIT!!!" about 100 times a minute.

I read the story on that set of pictures recently.  Told by another captain that was just ahead of him.

Briefly--the tug caught water badly (IIRC he was supposed to dump the barge, it goes under the bridge, and he goes upstream and takes a fork in the river, and catches the barge downstream.  The tugs have a large amount of ballast in the bottom of the hull, so it will always right itself.  The water only went into the wheelhouse, the remainder of the tug is watertight.

Still makes for an interesting series of pictures, though.

[0j] I had to hold my breath on that one while the pics loaded up! What a ride! Unbelievable the power of H2O. Everyone takes it for granted but no one respects it till its too late.

What gets me is the last two pictures in that.  The muther f@$&ing captin is powering up to the barge to retreive it!!!

I would have checked my nuts to make sure they were still there and then parked that tug on the shore.  My day would have been done!
