Ricardo Munoz said he and his brother had been drinking beer for about half an hour when they began arguing.

Jesus wanted Ricardo, a native of Mexico, to sign up Ricardo's 2-year-old son for Social Security benefits. Ricardo was cooking meat and grabbed a knife.

''He thought that I was going to do something with it, and then he left my apartment,'' Ricardo Munoz said, calling his brother a ''second father.'' ''He got angry and lost his mind. He's got a bad temper.''


Ricardo Munoz said his brother had only recently bought the gun for security when they pitched in to buy the apartment building.

He said police found the shotgun after Jesus telephoned his wife, promising he would surrender to police.


Mayor Daley called Enrique's death a tragic example of what can happen when people drink, argue and have easy access to guns.

''Who loses out? It's a 4-year-old, a 4-year-old visiting a family,'' Daley said Wednesday.
