WARNING: Actual footage of Filipino farmers attacking people with M-16s armed ONLY with machetes...

http://web.axelero.hu/szlejer/filipino.mpg

If you DO NOT wish to see actual humans being shot and killed DO NOT click the link.

This Filipino mentallity comes from back when farmers could attack US troops armed only with .38 revolvers and kill them with machets before dying of the gunshot wounds. This led directly to the army seeking a more powerful sidearm and eventually adopting the Model 1911 .45 ACP.

Yeah, but I wouldn't want to be trying to stop any of those guys with just a handgun, no matter what it is.  They look really determined, and make impressive headway even when they get lit up.  And you can see the troops backing up when those guys come towards them, even as they fire.  Shows the importance of the Tuller drill, 21 foot rule.

Steyr, do you know if these are Filipino fed. troops v. rebels?  Farmer rebellion?  Death squads?  Just wondering what could have caused these guys to rush the armed guys despite seeing fellow farmers cut down like that.

Having studied both Arnis De Mano and Kali, I'm sure if these boogers got close enough they would f*ck up all your Sundays.

I'm pretty sure the "farmers" represent the communist factions causing so much trouble as of late. The troops are probably your standard "communist-terrorist" eradication squads.

Affirmative, thedave1164.

A cousin of mine was a Marine in the security det at Subic in '88-'89 - I got to see him both coming and going to WESTPAC cruise.  He spoke of sporadic contact, sniping (potshot) incidents from the NPA.

They are a viscous group, and they care nothing for human life.

That's certainly what I understood.

That sure does re-enforce the concept of a man with a knife standing 21ft. away can kill you faster than you can draw, fire, and drop him--doesn't it?

Well I know what "I" can accomplish with a knife.

General rule, armed = threat. Act accordingly. Also be able to defend yourself WITHOUT a gun. This way you can keep the bastard off of you/at bay until you bring the firearm (which you hopefully happen to have at the time) into play.

This incident happened about a couple of years ago in one of the provinces in Mindanao - in Bukidnon if my memory serves me right.

Several municipal policemen accompanied by militiamen (CAFGUs) were assigned to serve an arrest warrant on the head of a religious cult (Tadtads I think). A TV crew accompanied them to cover the arrest.  As the arresting  team entered the cult's barrio, several cult members attacked them from behind with bolos.  The cultists believed that they would be protected by their "anting antings" (religious amulets) from 55 gr. FMJs.

Subsequently, there was a short lived public outcry on the incident questioning the propriety of the arresting team's response to the attacks.
