The shoulder boards are different colors depending on his branch. Hard to tell which red his are.
He also has 6 combat stripes on his right sleeve- each represents 6 complete months incountry. That's pretty unusual- 2 of my three tours ended DAYS before we'd all have earned another stripe. |

The funny part about this thread is there are more posts about the women in the audience than the subject of the original post.

That is the new Army Service Uniform that is replacing the green Class A uniform.
Shoulder board and sleeve braid color will be determined by his branch. |

It is orders better than the 50's era green uniforms we are going away from.
I've yet to meet anyone else in uniform who agrees that changing our dress uniform is a priority worth fooling with now, though... |

not the kind one might wear when defrauding unemployment insurance to be sure Uhh? I don't get it. Anyway, I am so glad I will be able to retire before I have to buy that lame dress blue uniform. Some guys showed up in the summertime version of that uniform and they looked like Wackenhut mall cops. The white shirt looks like it was made from material salvaged from recylced drink straws. |

Yep, openly gays in the ranks and a dress uniform that is more embarrassing than a 1970's polyester liesure suit and a camouflage uniform that doesn't camouflage. Three more reasons why I soooo look forward to my 30th anniversary and my retirement papers. |

Looks like they're copying the Marine dress uniform. Actually they're fucking up the old Army Dress Blues, which looked sharp, and were traditional. The problem was that the Army had a dress green uniform (criticised as ugly) and a fancy dress blue uniform(criticised as expensive). To simplify it was suggested they ditch the greens. As a compromise they ditched the greens and made the blues hideous. The blues are also worn with a white shirt when a jacket is inappropriate, those REALLY look like shit. The correct solution was to ditch the greens, retain the blues as they were, with each Soldier issued just the blues. The old Army khaki uniform could be brought back for selected issue to Soldiers that need a working service uniform, like recruiters and those at the Pentagon. Less cost, more class, looks better, retains tradition, problem solved. |

Is that picture saying that to be a man in the Army, you must be Infantry?

Why is the Air Force and The Army always in a uniform crisis while the Navy (except the blue cammies) and Marine Corps seem to have and keep their shit together?

Wow - just stumbled across this thread.
That has been the Army dress blue uniform for longer than most here have been alive. It is also the new Army Service uniform now - as the old Class A Service uniform (it was not a "dress" uniform) is being phased out. The changes made to the blues to make them also serve as a Service uniform are minor. The fact their is a Class B version is the biggest - but it is not as if fabrics or colors, or cut changed. it is nothing you will notice when worn as a Class A or a dress uniform - with the exception of the aforementioned addition of the wartime service stripes. The confusion of the terms and purposes for the uniforms underscores the need to phase one of them out, they had obviously become redundant when people think a service uniform is a dress uniform. |

Army Dress Blue Uniform. This is an officer..major probably branched in Armor. Red and Gold on the shoulder boards indicate. He has jump wings and air assault badge.

Army is wacky.
They should have gone back to WWII era "dress" uniforms, nothing beat those for style. |

Look at his branch insignia. Based on the shape of the Branch, and the report of a red color on the shoulder boards, my guess is Logistics. |

In another 20 years, I predict Pershing will be the rage, and 20 years after that, Ike Jackets will make a triumphant return. |
