City officer arrested after allegedly pulling gun in bar
Baltimore Co. police say he threatened to shoot during argument with staff

4:22 p.m. EDT, April 19, 2010

An off-duty Baltimore police officer was arrested Friday after Baltimore County police say he pulled a gun on employees at a Windsor Mill bar.

The officer, 21-year-old Jamar Lloyd Barnes, got into an argument with a waiter about 9:30 p.m. at Corinthian Lounge and Restaurant in the 7100 block of Windsor Mill Road, said county police spokesman Cpl. Michael Hill. When security approached Barnes, he produced a pistol and threatened to shoot, Hill said.

Officers arriving at the scene encountered Barnes walking along Windsor Mill Road, Hill said. Barnes refused the officers' commands and a struggle ensued.

City police said Barnes is assigned to the Central District's community stabilization unit and is still in his probationary period. He has been suspended without pay pending a review, according to spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, who said the department is "committed to holding officers accountable."

Court records show Barnes was released on his own recognizance on charges including three counts of first-degree assault and one count of disorderly conduct.

I think its time for Baltimore to ban police officers

is it just me or does 21 seem a little young to be a police officer?  and this is coming from a 23 year old.

Sucks to be stupid.

Methinks arguing with the other responding officers so much a "struggle ensued" will not be looked upon favorably by the review board?

Is this typical for these charges, or do they treat civilians differently?

So, would I be ROR'd if I pulled a gun on bouncers in a bar?

Didn't think so.

Doesn't surprise me.

I was talking to a friend from MD last week about the beating video and he really had a lot to say about the state of law and order in MD. Not much positive.

Fired.

Internal affairs immediately suspended that officer and took his gun and badge.  Today I was notified that the police commissioner will be terminating him. He is an officer on probation.  You know Brian, the bottom line is we're not gonna tolerate the behavior that undermines the men and women of this agency," said police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi

They are the minority. Average age is 25 for our academies.

Things like this happen, regardless of how the department vets applicants.

A story I heard with a Tucson PD class from a couple years ago, from one of their classmates:

Two probationary officers liked to get into fights in bars, and then they would use their credentials to get back into those same bars.

Worked great until they pulled the trick on one bouncer who was unimpressed. He was so unimpressed that he called the desk sergeant on duty at headquarters with the names of said officers, who were told to report to the station first thing in the morning to discuss the situation.

Not much to discuss, actually. The evidence was overwhelming, and they were both terminated.

Pissing away a good job like that, for nothing!

Hired at 22 on the job at 23.

Yeah, but when they looked in your ear, they didn't see daylight.
