I don't get it, we already have a "path". By making another layer of regulations, you are just making another layer that will still be ignored.
Our inability to enforce the current laws and the problems that go with it go hand in hand with this notion of "amnesty"
Amnesty isn't really the issue anymore, now the issue is "what laws are we going to ignore and what are we going to enforce". It goes deeper than amnesty, and includes election fraud laws, drug laws, burglery, ect.
I mention burglery because people don't realize that a lot of laws are simply ignored if they are not convienient enough to enforce. The current fad of releasing "non-violent" criminals is nothing more than an admission that only "important" laws will be enforced. This leads to an erosion of standard of living, as the populace participates in an activity (burglery, vandelism, ect) that is no longer seen as "wrong". The incidence of "violent crime" increases as overall social mores change for the worse.
In other words, to introduce "amnesty" is to introduce the acceptance of a certain amount of lawlessness. If the current immigration laws are not enforced, then new ones will not be enforced as well. It's akin to letting lawbreakers write the code of the law.
