This is now the active "shit (might be) is definitely happening in Ukraine" thread.

'Rods of the Gods' is Science Fiction bs.
Maybe. But having a Starship loaded with 100 tons of concrete dropping out of orbit at Mach 7 on your head could ruin your entire day.

about that.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brilliant_Pebbles

The system would consist of thousands of small missiles, not unlike conventional heat seeking missiles, which would be placed in orbits so that hundreds would be above the Soviet Union at all times. If the Soviets launched its ICBM fleet, the pebbles would detect their rocket motors using infrared seekers and collide with them. Because the pebble strikes the ICBM before the latter could release its warheads, each pebble could destroy several warheads with one shot.

After considerable study, in 1990 Pebbles replaced Rocks as the baseline SDI design and in 1991 it was ordered into production and became the "crowning achievement of the Strategic Defense Initiative".[4] By this time the Soviet Union was collapsing and the perceived threat changed to shorter-range theatre ballistic missiles. Pebbles was modified, but doing so raised its weight and cost; the original design called for around 10,000 missiles and would cost $10 to $20 billion, but by 1990 the cost for 4,600 had ballooned to $55 billion.[3][b] Fighting in Congress through the early 1990s led to Pebbles' cancellation in 1993

I have a suspicion that Russia hitting Kyiv with long range missiles is retaliation for HIMARS attacks on their command posts.

An interesting read: Why did Russia give away Crimea 60 years ago?

Key points: to dilute the Ukrainian population with ethnic Russians, and for political payoffs/coalition building.

Somebody asked about the Starstreak; Ukrinform posted earlier that a Ka-52 was just brought down by one.

Post implies video but I couldn’t find any.

Instead of sticking with the airfields, a dictator can get offended and switch to night bombing London.

They really need airburst rounds and more guns firing at the same time.  Those hits really seemed to dig into the ground.

Yep, one of the things often forgotten is the 155 rounds they are using is approximately twice as powerful as the previous generation rounds and the 152mm they are used to

They built that thing over 30 years ago. If/when they get around to making another like it, they can do much better.

The only good thing about a 30 year old design is that it's cheaper if you kept it in serial production.

Looks like five launches on Odesa, two (Kh-31s) that landed southwest of Odesa, one (type unidentified) hit a military base just west of Odesa, and one (also unidentified) bus station co-located with railway infrastructure. One Kh-22 shot down, UA says smoke at that location is from a grass fire.

ETA- Two more reported SSW Odesa, Horbaty bridge, one shot down, one "arrival" as they say.

Just because our corrupter in chief doesn’t want them to win has nothing to do with it if they themselves along with the rest of Europe says that they will and are determined to make it happen and prevent WW3. And FJB will once again have to or have no other choice than to follow their lead into doing the right things when push becomes shove
