The question is straightforward enough.
Flash hider? Brake? Comp? Which is your favorite for a general purpose AR, and why? |

Pick your flavor of suppressor and get the simplest/cheapest muzzle device that will let you mount it. Done.
The Precision Armament AFAB is the best combo muzzle device
This coming from an owner of multiple cans (best option), a MAMS, and GA Flash Comp |
BCMGUNFIGHTER. It's pretty good at everything without being obnoxiously loud or producing huge amounts of flash.
Phantom.
Even more old school A2 birdcage works pretty good. |
Value = A2
Overall favorite - B.E. Meyers 249F. Sucks its discontinued. |
Dead Air keymo brake. Not much concussion when naked.
Surefire things too ETA pic thread? Attached File |

Golf ball launcher. Works with blanks.
Makes an excellent improvised less-than-lethal launched impact device that leaves a hell of a bruise. Golf ball launcher for your AR-15 |
YHM Phantom 5C2
Because it's cheap and more efficient than the A2. |

I have a few Noveskes that came with Smith Vortex. I like them.

AK brake.
So when those guys who claim to be my internet friends try to ask how many grenades I would own if they were legal, I can bump a mag and make them stop. Kharn |

AK74 Brake on a 14.5"
I call it the headache maker. You want some space at the public range.. pull that bad boy out with some 45gr varmint loads.. boom.. people leave two tables deep on each side of you. And it freaking works GREAT in full auto!!!! Attached File |

A2 because of value.
Although I do really like the griffin flashcomp for a nice upgrade. Both of which mount silencers. |

A2 is what I use on things without cans (the horror). |

I still don't know the difference between a brake and a comp.

I like the SureFire SFR ProComp. Use it on both of my .308's and works well for me on that platform
VG6 gamma for sure and VG65 on my bolt action Grendel, works well and on sale on the INTERWEBS for $30-$40 now days.
A2.
It actually does a pretty good job of being a combination flash suppressor/compensator and they're $10. |
I use an A2 because I'm cheap. If I were going to upgrade, I would go with a Smith Vortex.
Flash Suppression > Reduced Recoil |
