So, I was relaxing this evening by binge watching Longmire via Netflix on my PS4.

Then it abruptly died. Black screen, would not restart, just dead. It did briefly restart once, Netflix was up again, then dead again.

And that was the story of my PS4.

I had already decided long ago that my purchase of my PS4 way back in 2015 would be the last video game system I would ever buy.

And so, my days of playing video games are at long last, over. I started playing way back with the Atari 2600 and it's been a lot of frustration, a lot of fun, a lot of quests completed, a lot of sports against friends, and a lot of just play hours killed. But those days are at an end.

And for the record, the very last game I ever played with this afternoon when I was replaying my favorite game of all time, Red Dead Redemption 2.

So, thank you Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Sony, and Microsoft. It was great.

My PS3 has been used almost daily since September 2009 and it's still going strong.

My PS2 lasted until 2015. My PS3 died a year earlier.

I had enough RRoD on XBoxes to skip the XBox1 entirely.

My PS3 took a big dump and would only play DVDs from thereafter, only after switching it on and off multiple times.

Got a XBone, which I am far from happy with but it gets done what I need it to.

Good thing the Playstation is a "computer entertainment system", not a game console.

I went through a SHIT ton of 360's.

My xbone has been going strong for 6 years now though... I kinda want it to die so I can get one of the xbox one x's... but it just won't die.

I just bought a PS4 last week (my first). Though I did have a 3 and a 2 back in the day.

Fuck it, get it anyway. Adults can do that.

For reference, we're adding a One X to the pile next to the XBone (which is next to the 360). Gotta get that 4k support.

...in addition to two gaming PC's, and a half dozen older consoles.

Variety.

I dunno why people think it is macho to not play video games. Most games are lame now but I just finished RE2 Remake and it was great

Yeah. I have no direction or drive in my life, but I want something. Like Mal said, I got no rudder. Wind blows Northerly, I move North."

But part of why I made the decision to stop gaming was so much of the game in online based these days and I don't play online. And more and more games are moving towards that model of the single player game is really just a beta for the online version. No real updates or new content like DLC unless you play online. The Battlefront Star Wars and GTA and RDR Online games are what I'm discussing. Or you can only unlock special characters via in game cards but once the game in no longer supported two years later, those special characters are gone. All those EA Sports games for example. And part of it is just the sheer amount of time it takes to get proficient with the sports games to the point where it takes days of play just to get through the tutorials.

I don't know, it just feels like it time to find something else.

I guess deep down inside I'm just a wanderer and it's time to wander away from video games.

Ha...My SO give me crap about playing video games. I'm no teen, no one my age should be playing video games bc she is insanely jealous imho and I think she believes game time is attention I'm not giving her. She even insinuated that she was going to break my Xbox and was shocked when I told her I would leave her if she was that crazy....

So you give up on gaming if you want. I will play on....

Last time I took video games seriously I was stuck at the truck stop in Hubbard, OH, for the weekend due to a breakdown. I spent all of my time, and most of my money, either in the bar or the video arcade. I must have spent $60 just playing ‘Rampage’, which is a riot when you and all of your opponents are drunk off their asses.
