I haven't been able to snag a copy of the proposed revision yet.
Here's the notice that will be published in the Federal Register tomorrow. https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2016-07970.pdf Meet your new 4473 |

Did I just read it will take an estimated 30 minutes to fill out the new form?
|
|
A half hour to complete it? Goddamn, it takes me about 2 minutes.
|
|
I'm sure this is gun owner friendly and will expedite the whole gun buying process.

"background checks are not a registration."
the rest of my comment....is best kept to myself for now... |

This will drastically reduce the murder rate on the south side of Chicago.

This might be a big "stick it to gun owners". Or it might just be a minor change and the 30 minutes includes the average reading, comprehension and data collection for a person that has never filled out a 4473.
|
|
30 minutes to fill out the public response or the revised form 4473?
|
|
If it truly takes 30min to fill out the only possible benefit would be for me to rethink my purchase and save my money.
But on a truly serious note, FATF two times. |
|
Since I'm basically out of fucks I'll just buy ammo until my slab cracks. FBHO.

They are probably doing this to push you toward getting your CCW that way they have a pic and prints on file.
With my CCW I don't have to do the background check. |
|
I'm sure people were not happy about record sales month after month after month. So their bright idea was to make it more difficult to try to slow down sales.

View Quote So, they're going to basically ban all firearms in NJ then. Since we aren't allowed to obtain a CCW here because we're barely allowed gun ownership. |

I wish they'd reduce something on the front page so at least the transferee could sign at the bottom of the form on the first page. Also, remove a bunch of the silly questions and have a big box at the top that says, "If you have a CHL enter the number here and just sign at the bottom".
The half a dozen boxes dealing with NICS denials, delays, etc. operator ID numbers etc should be gotten rid of and just fix the background check process. It should be more like a credit card transaction. Immediate yes/no answer. Most of my calls are taking 20 minutes on hold these days. Unacceptable. |

If anything is marked wrong or misspelled then the buyer is disqualified and can now face charges for inaccurately filling out a very complicated form.

This is the federal govt after all. I would guess this non-registration form will now have you list each and every gun you have EVER owned whether during or prior to the 4473 time span.
Just saying it is going to be part of the next Obama executive order. I know I shouldn't give them ideas!! EBR666 |

View Quote Thanks to some liberal anti-gun attorney a lot of FFL's in my area have been spooked into running NICS on purchasers even if they have a CHL that exempts them. I am not one of those FFL's. |

I can't remember the last time I actually read it. Done so many I just fill in the blanks, check the appropriate boxes, sign, show ccw permit and hit the door. But it did take a few minutes the first time I did one.
