Glad I wasn't a passenger.

Meh. Let he who has not banged one in cast the first stone.
That said for a second I thought he was gonna prang the nose wheel after the bounce. |
|
|
|
He landed like he was hitting the hydraulic switches!!
That fucker 3 wheeled better than Soulplane! |
|
|
That was ugly. The pitch attitude after the bounce was nasty.
Really good judgement to TOGA out of that one. Mighta saved some damage. |
|
He sure did grease the second attempt
Also, what’s the aviation equivalent of a Foamer? |
|
I watched the part when the main gear touches down several times. Knowing how big the plane is it's hard to fathom how much force the landing gear is having to bear, especially on a hard landing like that.

YIKES ! 74Gear, The dude on Youtube is gonna have plenty to say about that one.

So why wouldn't the pilot have slammed in in to full reverse thrust to just plant the plane?
Trying to take off again seems more risky to me (who knows f all about aviation procedure) |

Co Pilot (on the stick) "Somethings wrong with autoland."
Pilot "autoland not installed on this bird." |
|
Arm chair quarterbacking, I know: Seems like he made the first landing ok though rough. With that said, I get the 'when in doubt, go around' concept. Done it many times.

View Quote I was once on a 737 which dropped many of the OH compartment doors on landing. I, half under my breath, said to my wife “must be navy”. A guy either next to me or within earshot started chuckling. |

It happens.
I find it hilarious that they have announcers for planes landing. Just the same as if they had announcers for train-watchers. |
|
My most recent trip, I was half-asleep on the first leg's landing, and the pilot planted it so hard on the runway that I wrenched a muscle in my back.
Exiting the plane, I told the pilot that he was supposed to announce "BRACE! BRACE! BRACE!" before an impact like that. Fortunately, it was just a muscle pull, not something worse, so after a week of agony it cleared up. |

Trying to take off again seems more risky to me (who knows f all about aviation procedure) View Quote Landing in this attitude with a bounce like this, attempting to correct the attitude of the airplane, you are behind the airplane far enough that corrective inputs tend to exaggerate it instead of make it better. In a small airplane, this typical results in two more bounces, each worse than the last, with the nose gear folding up on the third one. I have bounced exactly one landing. After the first bounce and attempt to correct, I bounced nose wheel first (there was #2) and then I realized I was driving the bounce, stopped trying to fix it, and just froze the elevator with the airplane in enough of a nose-up attitude to land mains first, and let the airplane quit flying and settled on the runway. You can get away with that in a small airplane, probably not a bigger one. TOGA was exactly the right move. |

Trying to take off again seems more risky to me (who knows f all about aviation procedure) View Quote When a plane starts porpoising like that, it’s easy to break the Nose-wheel. (Which is bad). Also, the Spoilers may not deploy, and you can’t “Slam it into reverse” because reverse is Locked Out. So, you’d end up maybe swerving off the runway. Big planes have a lot of inertia. It’s hard to describe what it’s like, but picture driving a big truck, on Ice. If things start going badly, you can’t just “Slam” anything. You have to use finesse. |

That big bitch didn’t look stable enough to attempt a landing.
Pilots are in for some refresh. |
