How soon before the UN condemns Israel and seeks to enforce UN Resolution 2334?
Since 2016, when UN Resolution 2334 passed (it became enforceable via international law) and it states that Israel is an illegal occupier of Jerusalem and other ‘Palestinian territories’ as identified. So, since 2016, if Israel does not comply with UN Resolution 2334, then the UN has the authority (at their chosen time) to enforce Resolution 2334 and go to war against Israel to force compliance. Background on UN Resolution 2334: America has recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital (under Trump), but the UN does not recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. On 12/23/16, the UN Security Council passed UN Resolution 2334 that demands Israel adhere to 3 provisions: 1. Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 (including east Jerusalem) have no legal basis; is a violation under International law and negatively impacts a 2-state peace solution; 2. Demands Israel stop all settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territory which specifically includes east Jerusalem; 3. UN will not recognize any changes to the pre 1967 war borderlines (including east Jerusalem) unless agreed to by the parties. Obama/Kerry, DID NOT VETO Resolution 2334 back in 2016 (right before leaving office). |
