BLUF - Killer is crazy/sovereign citizen who is representing himself. He's so disruptive that he has to watch from another court room via video.
NPR Article The first day of the Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy trial got off to a tumultuous start when defendant Darrell Brooks Jr. was removed from the courtroom several times after repeatedly interrupting the judge. Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Dorow called more than 10 breaks Monday because of Brooks' outbursts and disruptions, which included him repeatedly asking Dorow to say her name. He also questioned the jurisdiction of the court multiple times after asking Dorow to adjourn the case. That led to jury selection, which was supposed to begin early Monday morning at the Waukesha County Courthouse, being delayed by more than six hours. As of 4 p.m., potential jurors were still being questioned in court. View Quote Today, he was moved into a separate room to watch via camera. Update - 10/4: Jury is empaneled. It consists of 10 men and six women. Twelve of the jury members will decide the case and four will serve as alternates. Opening statements will begin Thursday, Oct. 6. Update - 10/25: Jury has the case. Poll inbound. Update - 10/26: Guilty on ALL counts. (Sorry for the late update to the OP - was in a conference all day) Update - 11/16: 6 Consecutive Life Sentences without Parole plus 762 years |

Day 2 Info
Proceedings were less than 10 minutes underway when Dorow told Brooks, who is acting as his own attorney, he was once again being disruptive and would have to participate from a different courtroom by video. Brooks made a point of clarifying he's a sovereign, not a sovereign citizen, the status he had earlier claimed. Once removed, Brooks was very demonstrative, standing and making many hand and arm gestures. His microphone was muted. Brooks is now facing 76 criminal charges: six counts of first-degree intentional homicide with use of a dangerous weapon, 61 counts of recklessly endangering safety with use of a dangerous weapon, six counts of hit-and-run involving death and two counts of bail jumping, all felonies; and one count of misdemeanor domestic abuse-battery. If I were the judge, I'd be thinking, "Pro se sovereign citizen defendant. Let the entertainment begin."

He's playing the Moor/Sovereign game. He probably got advised to do it by other jailhouse lawyers. It's just a tactic used to delay the trial and set up an appeal, because he knows he's going down.

I don't know if anyone's ever been dismembered via a baseball bat, but that fucking piece of shit would sure be a good candidate.

I'm 99% certain he knows he's going to going to be found guilty and get the maximum. I think when Tustin Hackensack he's thing to try and appeal by saying, essentially "Your Honor, my lawyer is a moron." Whereupon he will be reminded that he represented himself, and then he will complain that he shouldn't have been allowed to do that.

I don't understand how in the hell the judge agreed to self-representation. I get that he was ruled competent, but how is he going to even complete voir dire?

View Quote There is a constitutional right to represent one's self. If she had denied him the right to do so once he was found to be competent, he'd have been set for a successful appeal right there. His goal is to drag this out and make it as messy as possible in the hope that the judge will get aggravated and screw up. She's doing okay so far. Voir dire will be awful, but the real goat rodeo will begin when it's time for him to cross examine witnesses. |

Judge should dismiss the case, set him free. Of course, announce the day/time in advance. I’m sure a good citizen will TCB.

Court Cam is going going get a lot of gold from this case.

DB is under covid protocol.
DB was given a PCR test, was offered a rapid test later, but refused. DB removed to the other court room. |

What a joke that we let this piece of shit turn the court into a circus. I like how they have the white balance adjusted on the camera too.
|
|
Since the defendant is ankle chained and can't move around the court room, the judge is not allowing the state to move around the court room either. Just to keep it fair.
