I think you must live in the last house I rented, it needed recarpeting, a new dishwasher, and the fireplace had issues, plus I was paying about fifty bucks more a month than it was worth.
Edited to add: The place needed all of that stuff before I moved in, we were great tenets, paid on time everytime (although the landlord "lost" a rent check, cashiers check, no less, and didn't find it until after I had made a second payment for the month, and let them know I would have to report the missing cashiers check to the bank so if it got cashed somebody would be in trouble), plus I had a habit of fixing things and not getting reimbursed for materials.
