If your favorite color is Surrender Flag White and Depression Gray with irregular simple non-mitered trim, unskilled carpentry lines, Industiral galvanized light fixtures and worn hardware - THen Modern Farmhouse is for you!
It combines the sleek clean lines of contemporary Capitalism with the poor socialist (e.g. "cozy") combined with Soviet Inspired "unembelleshment" and irregular textures. Flaws = style, Wear = patina and artistic, broken = characteristic and practical. It all looks like socialism decor is trending popular. When your new home is a white and gray painted cargo container you can feel trendy. Prison bars might make it feel "secure" Right now nearly every house being listed is with the above themes. Please no color. A red star on your Christmas Tree is the only color allowed. Yes I am constipated, old and tired. I need my juice. |

I absolutely hate the gray trend. Why do you want to live in a storm cloud?!
|
|
I hate it. I want my house to look like the inside of an operating room.

Is this your second thread complaining about farm house style or is there another bARF.commer who hates farm house style too?
It really must offend people. |

Farmhouse is a rejection of 80s-90s Maximalist Mcmansion. Maximalist is a rejection of Midcentury, which came about due to shortages of traditional building materials in Europe post WWII. Anyway, Midcentury had some very practical and cool design themes, and I also can't wait until Farmhouse is relegated to history.

|
Is it okay if my shitty farmhouse has been a shitty farmhouse for 170 years?
or do I need to tear everything out and make it look like the set of Frasier? |
|
|
I want my Mom's brass fixtures and Peach colored shag carpet back.
|
|
The middle age ladies love that shit though. The white paint they use sucks. Wears too easy.
If it makes the bride happy, what the hell why not. Its growing on me. I’ll say that. I do know for a fact though that I do not miss the real light wood colors from the 90s. |
|
Gotta love those sliding doors, the ones that run on the tracks with big rollers and don't actually close but kinda of hang there loosely. They provide you with so much privacy.
|
|
Bunch of fairies in here arguing about interior decorating.
You can take my shiplap wall from my cold dead hands! |
|
A lot of farmhouses in socialist countries?
Your house has rainbow wallpaper doesnt it? |
|
Don't know of any houses like that, a local restaurant has that decor, Galvanized metal on the walls, etc. It's a horrible place to visit simply because of the noise volume.

We’re French Provincial in one house and nothing obvious in the log home….comfy leather….no coffee table (yet)
Lucky that we’re condensing furniture from 3 homes into 2. No Magnolia for me |

of all the things to rant about. this place has gone flaccid.
1/10. |

I am fine with real farm houses. The ones in a residential neighborhood like something out of the Truman Show, made to look "farmy" are stupid.
Don't get me started on buying new furniture that is painted to look old. |

I guess I'm tired of how overly utilized the look is especially in very nice looking homes.
Having grown up in a real farmhouse, I despise the sterile un-used land un-stocked up look that has a large pantry full of empty decorative jars. I just have a creepy feeling its trying to make plain and simple stand out while actually not highlighting plain and simple have to be practical and actually used. An old farmhouse had people canning and stocking shelves for what-ifs, Growing up under Jimmy Carter, I spent my summers cutting trees and splitting firewood so it would be seasoned for winter. Our house was heated by wood furnace. It was warm but so dry static electricity would shock you with everything you touched. People that want to feel trendy about soviet-style worn in looks will be happy when their home looks the part. |

I've told my wife that "Farm house" means really shitty paint/finish job from what I can tell. That if she wants to decorate a room or the house as "Farmhouse" then I'm gonna do some "Farmhouse" drywall and flooring work.

I love how ARFCOM immediately applies political values to anything they subjectively dislike.
It’s literally just interior decor, it’s not politics. |

Simple principle - avoid fake anything - wood, distressed, fur, art, etc. Avoid trends. Most of us who think we do still get caught up in them. Every trend usually has some elements worth adapting, but don't get carried away on the latest "themes" marketed on TV.

Bring back harvest gold appliances, avocado green shagg carpet, orange couches, and wood paneling!
Let's face it. Every generation has their shitty decor. |

Mounting TVs up high on walls is the most idiotic trend ever. Its not ergomomic and it looks stupid. Also, where is the sound system? Internal television speakers are awful. |

If we're going to politicize home decor I'm going with the theory that it's a rejection of socialism and a heartening back to the frontier spirit of independence.
Women wanting to have a clean, neat and easily sanitized look that can be used to cook and can food and prepare for hard times. The desire for traditional looks can encourage basic women to search for traditional values to go with them. Chip and JoJo epitomize hard work and perseverance and success. It's not the worst thing for women to want babies and a nice home. Let's also put the Pioneer Woman in there too. A show focused on cooking and taking care of a man doing agricultural work is a good thing. Regardless of the authenticity of the characters we should absolutely cheer traditional values when they are presented and successful. I mean which woman would you want to build a life with? The Pioneer Woman/Joanna Gaines or Amy Schumer? Pic your image of women carefully. |

Looks like Grandpa is angry his investment in wood paneled walls, orange countertops, and linoleum flooring isn’t selling for $150k over asking.

"Decor" is so fucking far down my list of shit to worry about that it isn't even on the list.
Whatever the fuck decor makes you happy is good with me. |
|
I like it.
Minimalist and clean looking but still has a warm and comfortable feel. |
|
Today I learned from GD that anything, anything at all, can be anti-American, socialist, communist, or whatever is bad today with enough mental gymnastics.
|
|
Don't really care. Someone else can do what they want. Another house is not visible from mine, not my problem.

Midcentury Modern is what we've got at casa de Joker.
I'm never going to give it up. Everyday it's like visiting grandma's house or stepping onto the set of Mad Men. |
