I'm going with a combination of exposure to LSD flown in by the CIA's Air America for MK-Ultra stuff, agent orange getting trapped in a thermal pocket & reflecting the light off of Venus, and Land of the Lost reruns.

One day, probably in the fairly near future, it's going to come out that there are some kind of intelligent non humans living on earth. The theory isn't that earth is hollow but that there are massive caves and tunnels thru out the world that are inhabited by these non humans entities.
