First of all Thank you for the Sub Forum GoatBoy.
So I have to ask a standard Sci Fi question. What handheld weapon would you choose from any Sci Fi movie? I.e. Lightsaber, Blaster, Phaser, etc. |
Either a portal gun or a "shogun" from "Where the hell is Tesla".
Crysknife would be pretty awesome.
But I'd take the Predator shoulder-mounted gun. |
Lasgun. You can recharge the batteries anywhere, even in a fire.
Well crap! I was thinking Jaffa Staff from Stargate, but ya'll's answers are better.
Most of them are pathetic. Close range only. Slow. Slow for multiple targets. Show the attackers your position. I'd rather have a Glock 19 than SciFi guns.
I would want a lightsaber. I could trim trees, demo work, play with it in my back yard, ect. I don't see myself getting into gun fights regularly right now, and I feel like a Glock 19 would hold its own against most concealable sci-fi ranged weapons anyways.

Iron Man's palm repulsors, unless I could have the whole suit.

The 'Fletcher' from Neuromancer.
"An advanced, pneumatically-powered, hand-held ballistic weapon which fires bursts of needle-like flechettes as ammunition which can be explosive, toxic or one of several other forms. It is Molly's primary ranged weapon. One of its advantages over conventional firearms is silence which translates to stealth." In the book, the dart options are: -Explosive flechette -Puffer fish neurotoxin -Knock out -A dart that gives people cancer |

As much as I would love a lightsaber, I fear I would just accidentially amputate some body part I need.
So I instead choose the phaser type 2 from original Trek. Versatile, can kill, stun (even wide field areas), disintegrate, ànd heat rocks. Phaser 1 can be detached for good concealment. |
But only if it would do what it would do in that show and cut down trees
My son and I have discussed it and have concluded that the Combat Wombat from "The Adventures of Tom Stranger" is the correct answer.

Not a movie, just awesome early SF/Space Opera book series that would have made an awe inspiring movie series.
A Galactic Patrol Delameter from the Lensman series. |

I’ll take the reskinned FiveSevens with the under barrel HE launcher from the newer Battlestar Gallactica. http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/b/b8/BSG_pistol.jpg/400px-BSG_pistol.jpg Edit I’m changing my answer to Wynona, Critons pulse pistol from Farscape. View Quote |

Handheld? Would a satphone control unit for a low orbit ion cannon count?
No? Ok. I'll take the M41A pulse rifle with grenade launcher from Aliens. |
