Throughout my life I've either been clean shaven, mustache, or full beard... Just how full, well, not so much.

My facial hair thins drastically as it nears my ears. Always liked friendly/mutton chops but didn't think I could pull it off. Said fuck it and ran the trimmer down my jaw.

Honestly, it doesn't look bad at all. Nowhere near as nice as those who inspired my interest, but this one is mine. And I'm hooked. Now to grow my mustache back out and roll some handle bars.

Any advice on trimming, upkeep, what not to do? If you're an aficionado, feel free to post up any history of the style.

From the era of weak soap, no shampoo, and fairly blunt razors.   There was a reason that when King Gillette invented the safety razor....it became very popular.
