Edit: I just bought a brand new Speedmaster Racing edition from them for ~$3075 yesterday. It was the lowest price since Covid-19 bulllshit. They raised it to ~$3900 today.

Help me understand. Why spend such coin on a thing that tells time? My $55 Fossil I bought 25 years ago still works fine. I mean, I don't care that people do it, but I just want to understand the why.

They both do the same thing, kind of sort of, it’s the engineering, refinement and pushing the performance envelope.

Some watches retain their value, or appreciate, and are a hard asset. The watch I posted above sells for about the same price used, so it was an absolute bargain. Look at the Rolex market right now - you can double or triple your money selling one if you want to get rid of it.
