A lot of us have some rather nice, and expensive, timepieces in our collections. Some of us choose to only wear one really nice watch, while others rotate. And we get a lot of questions about what watch should somebody buy, and they can’t always drop a grand or more for many of the suggestions floated around here.

I have a high/low mix of watches. While I love my nice stuff, I also enjoy some affordables to mix up the look, or situations aren’t always appropriate to wearing a high end watch.

If this thread were in GD, it would be full of G Shocks, but I thought it would be fun to do an affordables thread here where there might be some really neat suggestions FDR on fellow watch addicts.

For purposes of this thread, let’s define affordables as under $250 street price.

I’ll start, dug this one out of the watch box last night. Changed the strap that came on it - piece of shit - to a 20mm Hamilton strap I had sitting in my strap box for a Hamilton I long ago got rid of. Simply swapping straps made me want to wear it. Had to buff some scratches off the crystal, and after taking photos I realize I need to do a little more work on it later, but I’m glad to welcome it back to my wrist.

Those are great, I have a Tudor Black Bay homage with a red bezel by them. A little small for my tastes, but nice looking watches!

Its been good. I've ordered 6 watches from Aliexpress, number of watch bands, and a few other things and have been happy so far. Just don't expect delivery anytime soon after ordering. I've had a few items make it to me in about two weeks, but its usually closer to 3-4 weeks. Aliexpress actually has good buyer protection so if you receive an item that isn't as described or has an issue you can get a partial to full refund easily. I have minimized the potential trouble by always ordering from the higher rated stores (95%+ buyer ratings) and ordering things someone else has and was happy with the purchase.

The Marina Militare brand is a popular Panerai knock off with members on the WUS forums. They are on Ali Express but that is the first chronograph I remember seeing a photo of.

It’s a quartz, and it’s the only one I’ve ever seen as well. I may have got it in China Town, I’ve had it forever. If I ever see another I’ll likely buy one as this will someday die.

And yes, the chronograph works, and the 24 hour date subdial tracks properly. It has screw in lugs, just like a Panerai.

To me, that would be worth every penny

My contribution. $17 shipped on Ebay from Mumbai. Runs great, actual seiko movement and case, who knows what dial/hands/crystal. Found the strap in my toolbox from when I was in college. I actually kind of dig it!

Downside...mineral glass crystal. Pro...Accurate, easy to read, light and comfy to wear.

The first dials (from Jake at Dagaz Watches) had 54 Fathoms on them, but 55 is a little closer to correct. 54.6807 Fathoms just doesn't roll off the tongue.

I had this one built (with hands from Yobokies) but sold it before the aftermarket bezels came out. There was a whole subculture of FFF watches for a while after Seiko introduced this model.
