Just ordered the 22.5" WSM.  What other accessories do I need to look into?  A temp controller seems to be a good idea to me but I am not sure how well they work.  Any suggestions on brands?  I will be smoking ribs, butts and briskets mostly.

I use the old method...trial and error.

The temp is rock steady at 225 most of the time...takes a little work after 6-7 hours or so but it's still simple.

Search the above site and they have detailed instructions for each type of smoke...that helped me a bunch.

Would like an auto set-up but that will wait.

You'll enjoy the 22"...love mine.

Got the WSM today!  I'm thinking the 18.5" may have been a better choice for me after seeing at the 22.5" size but.................  Going to smoke some ribs tomorrow if the schedule permits (got a lot of things to complete in real life).

Thanks for the replies!

I felt the same way when I got the 22".

Search the virtual bullet website and you'll find tips on smaller cooks on the smoker (using less charcoal etc)

You'll be better off having too much room rather than too little.

First batch of ribs will be done soon.  Got some sausage on there as well.  Damn, this thing is easy to use.  It holds 225 to 250 with no adjustments at all!  I'm probably going to wind up saving money when I compare the amount of charcoal and wood I was using in my Chargriller........

And of course, a pic:

Good thing you bought the 22.5" first the 18.5" seem to multiply like gremlins.. I have 3-18's and 1-22" ..

Plus 1 for the Ique I have two of them and love them for overnight cooks.. I like Wicked Good lump for over night cooks. I can run mine for hours on it but Kingsford won't last me more than 6-7 hours ask me how i know.. I woke up to a cold pit.. :(

If you wanna more Q info beside the Vitual Bullett check out the BBQ-Brethren.com web site lots of great people over there aswell!

Really? I have done 10+ hours smokes with Kingsford and never came close to using it all.

Anything with the Weber name tends to multiply around my house:
