My 12 year old female German Shepherd just ate 3 of the small razor blade strips in a disposable razor blade cartridge. I've read online where people recommend feeding the dog a "heavy diet" with lots of  bread and waiting for the dog to pass the blades. Anyone been through this?

There are these people called veterinarians. They perform surgeries to fix issues like this. I would take the dog to one or be prepared to watch your dog die a horrible death.

Seems to be good advice.

When people swallow metal items they are not supposed to they do Endoscopy - they run a camera and tool down their throat and fetch it. Probably the same with a vet.
(one of my -  ER   - war stories ..... Sir what exactly made you thing it was a good idea to swallow a whole set of steak knives......)

I'm at the vet now. They want $4000 to remove them. I can't afford that. The vet is saying passing the blades is possible. In that case surgery would be a last resort.

I paid IIRC 1500 OTD or so for my 44lb dog to have internal surgical removal of a fish hook. $4k is highway robbery.

My dog ate a disposable razor and passed the blades no problem. Lived to be 18.

Wishing you the best of luck, OP

Call a couple other vets and ask what they would charge.  Prices can vary a lot between vets.   Good luck.

We're home now. Vet gave her something to move things along and something else that he described as a intestinal protectant. Also got special food to help and recommended feeding her bread to help as well.

Fingers crossed that this works in the next 72 hours.

I'm glad to hear that. She is my last pup of the four I rescued over a 2 year period about 12 years ago with my ex-wife. I lost one a couple years ago and the 2 others to old age in the last 2 months. It's been a rough few months.

How did the pup eat the strips? Nosing into the trash or chewing on the razor perhaps? Just curious.

I hope all goes well.

Holy shit the whole set? Not just a paring knife? How the hell did that end up?

Was he really that upset at coming in second?

She was nosing in the trash and decided to snack on them. It's the weirdest thing...she has never eaten any thing out of the trash.

Dogs are weird lol. I saw a dog eat a light bulb once and it didn't phase it a bit.

There's few things worse then your dog eating things it shouldn't have than waiting 2-4 days to see if they will die, empty your bank account to not die or still die or nothing bad will happen. I've been there man....rat poison, bucket of KFC, cookie sheet of tin foil, big bowl of Halloween candy (mostly chocolate bars),....etc. So far so good.

I wish you the best of luck

In 12 years of owning that dog, I'm betting this is not the first time she ate something similar and I'm sure you know.
You fucked up as her caretaker.
Find a way to get the money and pay for the surgery.

He pooped it out without a problem. But then again, he's a pure bred lab. Retard Chimpanzee Strong and lovable like a fluffy ball of hugs with the soul of a bottomless pitted garbage disposal.

This is why we have dog health insurance for our dogs. It isn’t ridiculously expensive compared to human insurance.

Gotta be a hungry ass dog to eat razor blades. Or just plain fucking stupid. Go to a vet and have the dog checked out...Those razor blades just cost you a shit ton more than the $12.99 you paid at Walgreens.

They would not be selling policies if they didn't KNOW they would come out ahead in the end.

That and all the fine print explaining the stuff they will NOT cover was enough for me to take a pass on that rip-off...

I had pet health insurance on this dog and the other 3 I had at the time. I canceled it after I had several issues they wouldn't cover. The other 3 have passed away now. This one is the last one and she's in great health....except for the razor blades.

Great news!

My wife recscued a puppy. Some mutt thats part Aussie cattle dog, part Labrador, part spaniel and all high energy retard.

She got into my shed and ate some ready mix concrete, half a tube of asphalt flashing cement, 20 yds of string line and God knows what else...i found her gnawing on a piece of #4 rebar. I gave her 3 cans of pumpkin and left her in the backyard. She didn't die, that dog is a survivor if nothing else

Glad to see they passed with no issues. We immediately take bones, broken glass and shit like that out to the big cans to prevent issues like this.

Just for one day I would love to have no common sense

But i would be the one that gets hit by a car.
