We've got a new EM puppy - I'll try to post up some pics soon. It is scary how smart she is at only 10 weeks.

ETA : Forgot to quote tallhorse

The first year or two it is a ton.  My girl doesn't eat any more than a lab. They are not incredibly active dogs so they don't burn that many calories. The expensive part is the vet bills. They get double doses of everything. Heartworm and flea medicine makes me go broke.

It shouldn't need to be said, but I'm going to anyway. Leash train your puppy early and often. English Mastiffs are not bold dogs and don't like new things. Early socialization is also a must. Introduce the puppy to anyone willing to pet them and show them a little love for five minutes. It will help you out tons when you have a 150 - 200 pound dog on your hands.

Another thing, clean the water and food dishes every other day and use stainless steel. If you don't, they tend to get pimples all over their mouths that bleed pretty good.

If I may add, at 10 weeks she is becoming potty trained, and fully understands the dynamics of the household and other dogs. We've never experienced this so early with any other breed of dog.

Our research has show that it you feed carefully, to avoid bloat, and can avoid bone cancer (we are feeding all US made premium foods), English Mastiffs can easily live a healthy life for 10-13 years.

Thanks, bdilender - we'll take your advice to heart.

Anyone have any recommendations for a Mastiff breeder in the south east or maybe even Georgia?  A breeder who has dams and sires with health certs is a major plus.

After our boxer passed in December we where looking into mastiffs.. we also looked into " daniffs" .. mastiff/dane cross..but could not find  any pups at the time.. I would have loved a mastiff but the scary part is they are huge and huge dogs do not live  a very long life... I hate losing animals. I know its part of it :(
