Guitar Rags - AR15.COM

What are your favorites? I started out buying Guitar World off the news stand and I think I had a subscription for a year. Then I discovered Guitar Player. There is so much more "meat and potatoes" in Guitar Player IMHO. Lots of great technical articles covering all different styles.

One of my favorite Guitar Player articles was "Consulting the Oracle" on Michael Hedges. Great stuff.

I have to agree with you. Two years ago I had a subscription to Guitar Player and this last year I had a subscription to Guitar World. World isn't bad but I think I got more out of Player.

Same here. Guitar World is cool, but Guitar Player seems to cater more to the musician. More meat and potatoes is the perfect way to explain it.

I still mourn the loss of "Guitar for the Practicing Musician". Every once in awhile I'll pick one of the others up if something on the cover catches my eye.

I am just learning guitar, so I was wondering if these mags would help me. I was under the impression that they are more for the advanced player. I have flipped thru a few and it seems to be a lot of advanced songs and stuff to buy.

I will have to say that Guitar Player has added to my abilities. It depends on what you mean by "just learning." If you just learned G C and D two days ago and are practicing going in between those three chords then I would wait on a subscription. If you can read tabs then I would recommend Guitar Player. It will put you on the track to becoming a better player, not just figuring out tabbed songs. Lots of different styles are covered.

I subscribe to Guitar Player. I do not care for GUITAR or GuitarWorld as they are often cover to cover 'EAVY-METTLE.

Some of the smaller/ foreign mags are interesting.
