The main slide is retained by a screw coupler and she was practicing for a school performance tomorrow and brought it to me saying she can't get it off.  Sure enough I can't unscrew it either.  I gave it a shot of wd40 and am letting it sit.  Any ideas that won't mar it up so we can break it back down?

DON'T try to fix it yourself.  Take it to the local horn repair specialist and he'll take care of it.

Yes, there is one.  There's always a shop that maintains school instruments.

did she cross thread it?
did she thread the nut then rotate the slide after the nut was already locked down?
Pics?

It does not look cross threaded, I can snap a pic when I get home.  I'm a tool and die machinist so I know better than to just man handle things.  I will definitely take it to a tech before going gorilla on it.

I've frequently found that when sheet metal parts are stuck, some hot water on the larger part will loosen things up.

not sure if kroil would be appropriate.  Try a heat gun?

Winner winner chicken dinner.  I put the gun on the lowest setting and got it free.  There appears to be no damage to anything and I was expecting galled threads.  Who would think an 11 year old girl could get it on there that tight!  I can still take a pic if anyone is really that interested.  I put a very small dab of antiseize on the threads after I got it apart.
