"My" TV isn't "smart" so I have a Roku for the occasion that I do watch something on it.
I don't have any sound systems hooked up
The set is connected to the wi-fi router via either net cable.

I'd like to replace the Roku, but I don't know which one to use or perhaps I should use something else?
We have amazon prime and Hulu (canceled netflix )

What say you?

I'm no expert, but I have this one. It works well, and definitely supports Hulu.

Hulu is owned by the communist Disney corporation anyway.  Quit supporting the enemy.

Which model, how old is it?

It's shitty but in my experience "all" apps stop supporting older players (Blu-Ray players, smart televisions, all streaming sticks and devices, tablets and phones too) at one point or another.  It's bullshit.

I heard Audie Murphy once walked by a communist and didn't punch him in the throat.  By GD purity standards, you have to boycott his movies as well.

It’s planned obsolescence.
Actually happened to my smart TV. What a joke.

Did not know that...I subscribed to several different providers while my Son was recovering from Bone Cancer, but he's better, and frankly I might watch an hour or a movie once or twice a month.

Spend more time with your son and less time worrying about what streaming services ARFCOM says support "communism".

PlutoTV.com, free streaming service.  I use mine through a PS4.  Love it.

It's hard to beat the Roku Express 4K+ for $30 (when on sale).

I have several and even bought one for my mother in law. They have all worked great for me.

I'm with you on this one, but I'll be the first to say, you're not gonna convince anyone to give up the convenience of streaming services. It takes a lot of effort, especially for people actually into this stuff.

But in case anyone's masochistic enough. This is what I've been doing.

Real Debrid, $18 for 6 months, questionable legality (you'll want to use VPN), runs on kodi. This is the closest you're going to get you a legitimate streaming service. But it takes know how to get it working.

Buying physical copies from thrift stores.

OTA TV antenna, you're gonna need to setup a TV as a PVR device to get recording.
