Basic Plot: A middle aged (late 30's) guy who has grown up a preacher's son in Baton Rouge, Lousiana, as a child preacher and later like his father performing Exorcisms for money decides that the time has come to go legit. So he decides to expose the tricks used by many so called "Exorcists" to take advantage of people for profit though a documentary. The Preacher receives a letter from a widowed and deeply/fanatic religious father who is a farmer in a very rural area of Lousiana asking that the Preacher perform an exorcism on his daughter. The Preacher with his camera man and female sound tech head out to film the excorism to show how easy it is to convince a family that a demon was truely exorcised. Unfortuantely, the Preacher and his documentary crew get a lot more than they bargained for when they finally meet this troubled family.



My Overall Review:



It wasn't bad. The whole movie is shot basically "Blair Witch" style, but fortunately the camera work is much more steady and smooth. The main character of the Preacher is a really well developed character and you get a sense he's lost a lot of faith, but still believes in God. The Preacher views everything very reasonably and rationally not through a "Bible Thumping" perspective and he's relatable. The other characters all do a fairly decent job acting. The plot was fairly good, but becomes harder to buy into as things become progressively worse as you move to the movie's climax. Basically it's one of those movies where it was time for the main characters to call the Po Po about 30 minutes into the film and they elect not to do so.



The ending was definitely a little unsatisfying though and most the audience sat there as though they were expecting more to happen other than credits rolling.



Worth a rental when it's out on DVD, but you're probably better off saving your money and not seeing it in the theater.

Over all the excorsism movies that have come out, I like William Peter Blatty's.
