Infertility is killing off the secular world, a number of writers have observed, including Phillip Longman, whose 1994 book The Empty Cradle I reviewed last year. [1] In the former Soviet empire, where atheism reigned as state policy for generations, the United Nations forecasts extreme declines in population by 2050, ranging from 22% for the Russian Federation to nearly 50% for the Ukraine. Secular western Europe will lose 4% to 12% of its population, while the population of the churchgoing United States continues to grow. Is secularism at fault? The numbers do not suggest otherwise.

Oh yeah. War or Peace, we win anyway.

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics, of course, and results of this kind should be viewed with caution. Still, this analysis passes the first cut of tests for rigor.

The reader must fall back on his argument that faith, not pecuniary calculation, will motivate today's prospective parents. The reproductive power of an increasingly Christian United States will enhance the strategic position of the US over the next two generations, leaving infertile Western Europe to sink slowly into insignificance.

The people coming to the US (legal or otherwise) are Christians. Christians who are fleeing communism, socialism, tribal war, economic morass, and other societal ills come to the good 'ole USA to build a new life for themselves. Even Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, etc... are doing better here than in the Turd World countries where they came from. Secularist liberals who worship at the altar of "gaia" will die away no matter how hard they preach at tax-payer funded schools.

the main reason we are growing is our influx of Mexican-Americans, its a cultural difference not a religious difference.

We'll be a Mexican and Catholic nation in 2050

I think its more likely that the population growth of the US is due to other factors, not our reproductive prowess. Otherwise (and no flame intended) south america would be booming, since catholics don't believe in birth control, and for the most part, south america IS catholic.

Well damn, now I'm a liberal. And here I was thinking I was a conservative, just not a CHRISTIAN conservative. Silly me. Of course, if the conservatives in this country don't WANT my votes, I can always start voting against them

You are right, other factors allow the USA to raise children to adulthood successfully in order to have more children. Latin America doesn't have those factors so they have kids, but most will die without ever seeing their grandkids hit maturity.

And thats a bad thing? I'm not saying that clinton was a good thing, but george I wasn't exactly a prize either.

Part of me says we need to set the term limit to 1 term for POTUS, 1 term for the senate, and one term for the house. But that's a different topic...which I'll probably start over in GD in a few seconds

No, where did you get that idea from? They have a one child policy because their government believes they are so unproductive that two parents cannot support one child.

I don't worry about China because as soon as war breaks out, their best and brightest will flee to the USA.
