Nicky Hayden Is 2006 MotoGP World Champion!!!!

On behalf of the whole Superbikeplanet team, we congratulate Nicky Hayden on landing his first Grand Prix world title.

Valentino Rossi we salute you too, great sportsmanship, and a great ambassador for the sport of motorcycle racing.

On the cool-down lap, Rossi made straight for Hayden, and in a show of true class, was one of the first riders to congratulate Nicky on his title win.

Troy Bayliss won the Grand Prix, showing the series regulars how to get it done, a classy ride from the Australian -- the reigning WSBK champion, of course.

Nicky is only the second rider in the history of the series to come from behind in terms of points at the last round to win the title. The first -- Wayne Rainey in 1992.

Times provisional as we go to press.

Official releases to follow.

Seconded!!

Rossi is fast and class, Bayliss schooled the field, but Nicky wears the #1.  Awesome.

The question I have is what number does he carry next year? A big #1 or good ole' 69?

He could be like Rossi and carry #69, or else he could be a good team player and carry the #1 plate (something Rossi didn't do).

I happy to see the kid win!!!

I didn't really think that he could out ride Rossi though.  Rossi going down pretty much sealed the deal.

Atleast I can say I raced with a future MotoGP Champion(when Hayden raced for the Hypercycle Suzuki team back in 98') in CCS at Daytona.

Rossi was terrifically gracious in his post race interview, very surprsing but yet not really.

Way to go Nicky!!!  Way to put America back on top!

Seen Nickey at the Peoria TTs a few years ago. He crashed in practice but no harm.
In the main he jumped the gun and got sent to the back row.
In the main(again) he passed everyone and took the checkered!
(ps) The week before at Springfield Nickey and his brother (Roger), and his other brother (Tommy) took first , second, and third at the TT race they had there.

I'm kind of surprised that Tommy and Roger Lee haven't done much with thier careers, compared to Nicky.  Especially Tommy, he's had some good rides, but nothing ever came out of it.  Maybe next year on the new Gixxer Thou.

Awesome.

I'm a big Rossi fan, but very happy the US has the championship back.  Maybe we'll get some good competition back in the series like in the early 90's.
