 Haven't checked my gas milage for a long time. Just topped off 5.751 gallons for 165 miles which is just over 28 mpg, 87 octane.  What's old is new again. For the record, 1985 Toyota 2WD, 2.4L engine, 4 cylinder, carbureted, 4 speed manual. Over the years: 1 head gasket and timing chain replaced, 1 set of front wheel bearings, 2 clutches, 4 starters, 5 or 6 batteries as well as sets of tires, 2 radiators, 1 set of rotors, master clutch and slave cylinder, master brake cylinder, rear drum brake pistons, 3 alternators, probably some other stuff. But that's over 20 years! |

The local toyota dealership had an article in our local rag a few years ago about a guy who was trading in his 4x4 Toyota truck. It had 500 000 + kilometers on it.

My Tacoma only has 140,000 on it. It's just a young pup of a truck.

This truck is a dream to maintain, no fuel injection, no computers, sensors, no power locks, windows, mirrors, basically like a lawnmower with 4 wheels. No power steering, doesnt need it, I learned basic auto mechanics keeping the thing maintained and done a lot of repairs, maintenance myself like adjusting the valves, replacing starter, alternator, battery, radiator, hoses, flushing brake fluid, changing fuel filter, setting the timing, changing plugs, wires, etc, etc. Hard core stuff or stuff that needs a lift, I have a good local toyota certified independent mechanic do the work for me, he charges me his price on parts.

I saw the back of a National Geographic that had an Ad for Toyota Pickups, the guy in the ad had like 700,000 miles on it.

Just did some calculating from KM to miles, that's about 300,000 miles. to convert Multiply the KM by 0.6 and you get the English equilvalent. To change from miles to KM multiply miles by 1.6 to get KM. |

The 85 truck was my primary vehicle for 11 years from 1985-1996, is that sad or what? Ever since I've had the truck and another vehicle, a '03 Tacoma, now each truck gets a measly 7000-8000 miles a year on it, my goal is to get 300,000 on the '85, but that'll take about 6-7 years  It'll make it though
