Just curious what actual mileage is with one of these cars.   Might be looking for something with decent fuel economy for the wife to drive to work.   I WILL NOT BUY JAPANESE.

I was talking to a customer a while back and he wasn't impressed with his.

I dont find any of the economy class to be terribly impressive.   I require a decent warranty, good mileage, price and a domestic manufacturer.    I wonder what a 500/montego gets for mpg?

Driving mixed (60% town, 40% freeway) I get 27 or so...ZX3, 2001.  Lots of A/C right now, though.

The only thing that I can think of is that he, living in Florida, is giving this calculations based on A/C use.

My 95 Taco did that    I'd be inclined to think it has gremlins.

Both of mine are getting around 28-30 on highway.  I think the wifes is probably avg. 25-26 overall. Lots of short trips on hers.

TM, 500's are getting around 24-27 depending on the driver.(At least for our customers.)

I believe the Recall for the fuel pump says something about this, take it in and complain till they fix it.

Perfectly normal for a high perfomance 5 speed 4 cylinder. My Nissan SER only gets about 30 on the highway with a 6 speed and that is if I keep it around 70. People tend to forget that 4 bangers turn pretty high RPM on the highway and really dont get that great gas mileage past 70mph or so. Hell my WS.6 Trans Am got about the same highway mileage as my Nissan with twice the power and a 4:10 rear gear.

I can Remember in 2000 when I worked for a Ford store. Selling Foci for MSRP $0 money down at 3.9% for 60 months. People loved them until the first N.A.D.A.  blue book came out. All of the sudden your $15,000.00 Focus with a loan balance of $16,500.00 was worth $8800.00 at the wholesale auction.

Now with the employee pricing though I can get a new one for about $8K or so.    I'm not seeing much point unless I can get an extra 10+mpg over my merc that it would be replacing it's got 165K on the odometer and still averages about 20-22 mixed and it's paid for.

My '05 ZX3 Automatic gets ~25 Mpg all in rush hour, full A/C.  Not too bad, my only complaint on the car (3ish months ownership) is the CD player, it can be finicky with some Mp3 CD's.

I am a little pissed off at mine.

I have a 2003 Focus SE with the 2.3L engine (hard to find but will go 40 MPH in first gear)

I am running it easy with the air on I am getting 24 around town and 27 on the highway.

No A/C I get 26 in town and 29 on the highway.

I have a 05 zx3 ses.  I'm averaging a touch over 30 mpg.  Granted it only has 850 miles on it but I like it so far.

I think the ZX3 was the lower cost model, correct?   That's the one I'd look at.  30 aint bad but my 91 Olds calais with the 5 speed got just as good mileage unfortunately the engine took a shit at 88K.

ZX3 is the 2 door hatchback.
ZX5 is the 4 door hatchback.
ZX4 is the sedan.
ZXW is the wagon.

S is the no frills version
SE has some options.
SES is fully loaded.
The ST is the only one with a 2.3L Duratec motor, and only comes in the ZX4 model for 2005, others come with the 2.0L Duratec.

From what I've read, the difference between Auto and Manual on these makes a big difference in MPG (duh).
