too thick of an oil will make the bike harder to start, too thin of and oil will make is shift "clunky" or hard.
IMHO, high dollar oil is a gimmick. Choose the correct oil for the temperature you operate at.
Example, I ran either Rotella or Delo 15w-40 in big rigs. Would go 30,000 - 38,000 miles between changes. NEVER had an oil related failure.
In all my bikes (I-4s, thumpers, and twins) I ran/run Rotella. I change it around 3500-4500 miles (road bikes) the thumper gets new oil every 2000 miles (lots dirt and dust).
NEVER had any adverse issues.
That said, you could run NAPA brand oil, change often and never have an problems.
