I tried to uninstall McAfee Internet Security Suite and it will not uninstall.
I tried to go to "Install/Uninstall Programs" and the list will not populate.
I can not get it to open so I can run regedit or msconfig.
I tried to get it to do a manual (I have XP Home and it is set to Auto Update) Windoze Update and it says there are missing components?

I am going crazy over this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When I type Start...Run it pops up that Windoze cannot create a shortcut there!

install  ccleaner

run xblock  scroll down a tab bit

and install ewido

the uninstall menu might take several minutes to load if you have several programs install so give it a couple minutes to load...

instead of IE try firefox or opera.  those are the 2 i would recomend.

msconfig sorta

manual removal of mcafee

I have been using Firefox Mozilla but I have a couple programs that require IE.

This is what I get after installing ccleaner.

I have let my Add/Remove Programs list run for 30 minutes or so and it still doesn't populate.

backup and fresh install my friend thats the easiest way.

I've noticed you have mcafee.  and Avg installed.  microsoft antispyware, and sygate personal firewall.   I bet your system runs extremely slow.  After your fresh install, if you decide to do that.  all you need is Mcafee and the microsoft antispyware.  you don't have to have all the software firewalls.  they just slow the computer down a whole lot.

other than that when i pasted your file, everything else was ok.  just sounds like your install of windows has decided to kick the bucket.

How exactly would you do a fresh install?

I do not have any Windoze CD's.

I have been trying to uninstall McAfee because my subscription ran out and it is such a resource hog.
That is what started all this in the first place.

Thanks for the help.
I am headed to bed and maybe I'll get a chance to work on it tomorrow.

from your hijackthis log it looks like you are using a laptop.   what brand and how old is it.  most laptop come with a set of cd when you buy it to reinstall windows.  if its a newer laptop when you first turn it on you can press the f10 or f11 key and it will start the recovery process, other wise you put the cd in the cdrom and restart the comptuer.  It should boot off that cd and start their recovery software

just please remember the recovery cd's WILL erease any data on the laptop, make sure you back up your info to cd-r, or some other exteral source

It is a HP XT-178 (ze5000), 2.4G P4 that is about 4 years old.

I have found the recovery CD's!

They say the first thing that goes is your mind!

I don;t remember what is next!

I have a few Gig's of data to put on CD's and then I will try the recovery route.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks,
