To make a very long story short I am having gaming trouble and general computer trouble as well. I have finally attributed it to their not being enough free ram. I have found (with the help of AVG 6.0) that out of 128 MB of ram there is only between 15 MB and 28MB of ram actually free.

So how do I free up more RAM? can uninstalling games and other programs help? Or is it a lost cause where I need to buy more RAM?

RAM is cheap. Go get some more. To answer your question, uninstalling a program frees up hard drive space, not RAM.

May take a little while to get it setup perfect..

I have 512mb ram and have it clear 256mb of that when I get down to 31mb of free ram.. Have pop-ups off and only run it when cpu usage is below 80% (I still manually do it when its above sometimes) and it's always running..

The only think thing in the task bar's systray should be the clock, the speaker icon and the network connection activity blinkies.  Anything else is stupid programs, like chat programs, or weather monitors.  (If you have a laptop then the battery power status thing is cool also)

Increase the maximum allowable size of the swap file.


And buy more ram if you can.

128MB is barely enough.
Get at least 512MB.
