The box was $300, and I spent about $70 or so on 16GB of memory, and about $180 on an mSATA SSD, so $550.   Monitor not included.

How does it preform?

I'm half tempted to pick one up for my son to watch movies on, but I don't want something super slow if I ever want to use it.

Pretty decent.  I3-3217u cpu, hd-4000 graphics.  Basically, an ultrabook without a screen or keyboard.

It's got to be loads better than anything with an Atom CPU.

Good point, and quite a bit cheaper than building an ITX i3 rig... It would be pretty sweet to pair up the red NUC with one of these loaded with a 7970.

Hadn't heard of Thunderbolt until now.  This is very cool (and very expensive)

I don't think thunderbolt connected GPU's work with Windows yet, they do on a Mac though.

It is actually the same shape as a mini display port, daisy chainable, and can carry video signal out from the IGPU. So you could come out of your thunderbolt port, into a storage drive, and out to your monitor... all with one port. Its a really slick technology.

Even better yet, soon monitors with speakers/webcams/usb hubs/etc. will all be connected along with the video input through one thunderbolt cable.

I like the idea of those.  I just looked on ebay and there are some for around $300

Correct.

Since it's a "u" CPU, I went for 1.35V memory.

Considering this for a thin client build... windows embedded. Very tempting.
