Welcome to the new thread, everyone!

2021 was a great year for us that brought new members and new PR's in distance and race times from returning members.

The rules are simple: Just pick a mileage goal (1,000 is just 19.23 per week) and post your daily and total mileage. The typical format you'll find here is "miles ran today" / "total yearly miles". Feel free to list rucking, hiking, or walking miles if you like as well.

Feel free to ask your running questions here - there's a lot of experience in this group. We also have Garmin Connect & Strava groups you can join to follow along with as well.

The idea has been floated to try arranging a race we could try meeting at. Speak up of anyone wants to try fitting this into your schedule so we can try finding a location (or locations) so we don't have to travel all across the country to do it - maybe Cola Warrior-style regionals.

Best of luck to us all!

The "just get out there and start even if you don't feel like it" advice is good.  I really didn't feel like it and the weather is kinda yucko.  But once I got out there and started, I felt better.

You are doing all the right things

Go fast for a minute, go slow for a minute is good training. Adjust the times and intensity for you, but the elevated heart rate and transition to rest and back helps to build your cardio base and strength your psychology. Slow easy runs are good for this too.

~1.5 miles in ~18 min is where I started in June 2022, and now run upwards of 20 miles a week. The key is consistency. I should go on that old 1.5 mile course and see how fast I can run it.... Haven't done that in a while.

And you nailed it on the head. Sometimes getting out is the hard part. Especially Texas spring rains, summer heat, all the things. I've regretted not working out, but once I've finished a workout, I've never regretted it. You always feel good afterwards. The mental uplift is rewarding... you did it.

Soon the nag becomes an obsession and just part of your daily routine. Keep it up

19 miler on the schedule tomorrow. My oldest also has a soccer game in the morning. How far away is the game, you ask? 19 miles.

Had to go out of town but found a nice little park with a running track in houston.  Did my 1.5 mile in 16:27.   Reminds me of my "most improved" bowling award in middle school.

Slowly bumping up the jog duration.  At this rate, I might be able to jog the full distance in another couple of weeks.

Awesome. You might have said before, but are you training for anything? Or just generally running your ass off?

Thanks!  I didn't mean to shave off that much time.  Its kinda surprising how much time you cut just bumping up the jog duration by 15 seconds.   Still not hurting much other than usual soreness so I'm going to try cruising around this same time the next run.

Maybe I'll get back into CW if I can keep this fitness train rolling.

Sometimes if your body feels good you can crank out a run that otherwise seems a bit too tough. Other days you're fighting to keep up with what you did a month ago lol

And I would love too see you at CW. In fact, I think attending in whatever shape you're in would actually go hand in hand with motivation to train.

Deep South II is coming up, spots open. Cool property, great host, and under 6 hours from DFW

19 / 936.27

I ran to the game and got there at exactly the same time as my wife and daughter, lol.
Then when I put it into my log for my coach I noticed the run was only supposed to be 18.

I'm training for a 50 miler in early May, then a 100 at the same place in October.

It's been a while since I've checked the thread or contributed anything. It's great seeing new posters and the progress.

I'm pretty much recovered from the Achilles injury and slowly getting back into running more. I've been mostly walking this year but still logging most of those miles. I went on vacation in Ireland in January but didn't log all those walked miles. I've hit the treadmill in a couple of cities in Mexico. I was hard pressed to finish 5K on the treadmill in Mexico City. I had no idea the elevation is almost 7400 ft ASL until I was sucking wind and noticed the placard on the wall.

Ran essentially in a rectangle that went against a hill. Long sides were up/downhill, short sides were the flats. About 40ft elevation change according to my watch.

Since finishing my 10k training, I've just been running my own pace. Whatever feels good, not paying attention to my watch, just running. And I've been running a fair amount faster than I was when following the program. Same distances. Feels good

Nice.  Do you find the elevation helps or hurts?

Ran again Monday and yesterday. 16:23 and 17:07 1.5mi times.  Worse time yesterday even though I was actively trying maintain the same pace as Monday.   Shins kinda hurt but ran anyways.     Going to give it a rest for a couple of days and maybe run again Sunday.

Yes uphill sucks. Downhill is easier but also challenging because you need to actively slow yourself down. Hill training is good training.

Don't get too hung up on your times. Consistency and reps are what's important.

I've been running the 10k program through Garmin with my longest run being 8mi ever. I got talked into trying a half marathon and figured I'd give it a go. I ended up running a 1:49:38. Super excited with that time. The half had some brutal hills and my calves are smoked but other than that I feel pretty fair. May try another one this year.

The wind and some GI issues made my workout really tough this morning.

I was in Mexico for several days a bit over a month ago and while I didn't have any issues there at all my digestion has been a little wonky ever since.

Picked the hilliest route I could. Combine this with all the miles yesterday (21) and my legs have never been so tired towards the end of "only" 17 miles.

I got a dreadmill
https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_113/2633818_Update-Treadmill-thread-Got-one-Buying-a-used-treadmill-Clothes-hanger-.html

Not sure what happened. Watch said I ran 6.4 miles, treadmill said 5.1.

My RPE was much higher than I expected given how 'slow' I was running on the treadmill, according to the pace. Watch pace was off by minutes compared to the treadmill. Actually despite increasing speed several times over the course of 60 minutes, my watch pace remained very flat.

I felt good when the run was over which makes me think I was running slow. I was hoping my watch would give good data for the run but maybe it doesn't do well on treadmills. Garmin FR935, activity was Treadmill.

Watched the Boston Marathon while i ran. It was inspiring.
