I heard they were pretty annoying last year, but I was wondering if they were driving you guys nuts yet this year?
We get them up here in Washington, but always later in the year. Maybe around July through August. We don't get a lot of them though, at least not enough of them to drive you nuts.

Just a few of them right now in South Texas.
They'll be getting a little bit noisier every day now.
Annoying little bastards...

Really? I didn't know that. I'm surprised they can catch the little buggers. They usually go silent and fly off before I can get close to them.

I haven't heard any in Western Travis yet. The dang paper wasps are building nests on everything though. I don't think I've ever seen so many.

Still haven't had any yellow jackets or wasps up here in Washington that I've noticed... It's been far too cold. Actually the coldest April and May we've ever had on record. We haven't had but maybe 2 days in the very low 70s and usually we're up into the 80s by now. Every morning lately has been down into the low 30s.

Haven't had any cicadas in Abilene yet that I've heard. Your observation on the wasps is interesting. I saw a few as the season started warming, but now when I should see them in full force building nests, it's been rare to see even one wasp.
On hearing cicadas in summer, I guess I'm weird because I like hearing them.

Now that you mention it, I hear frogs galore croaking at night, but no cicadas. Last year it was pretty noisy with them.
