There is no one better to learn the platform from than Larry Vickers IMHO. You can find his schedule here at www.firearmstrainingandtactics.com  Look under training opportunities, he has a AK class in May I think.....

Um, I am not sure how to even respond... I don't know of any "training AK" videos that I could recommend. Wouldn't it make more since to save your cash and take a class to learn the weapon properly?

No it doesn't.

Yes, there are some skills to learn in person.
There are also some skills which it is better to learn by watching a video over and over and over and over.

Here are some additional thoughts.
If I by a video and I like the guys style and presentation, I will then know who I want to do my in person training.

When it comes time for my next in person training, I would be temped to run a head mounted camera all day, that way I can review it at a later time.

I have not decided if my go to platform is going to be an AK, AR or something else.

Makes sense. It sounds like you have a methodology that will work for you. It was my bad, I didn't notice the video question.  Gabe Suarez might have a video out, but I am not sure.  If you check out M4C training section you will find some AAR's from classes and that might help guide you to an instructor that fits your needs. I will poke around and see if I can find a good AK video for you. Pat Rogers from EAG also does a AK class.

Best of luck.

No problem missing the DVD bit.  I didn't mention it in the first post, because of where I made the post.  (Can't everyone read my mind? )

I am trying to stay away from Suarez's work.
I read his books and I really liked what he had to say, but then....

I read the my guru is better than your guru thread on a different forum.  Suarez didn't fair to well in that thread.

Then, I had a run in with him on a different forum.  He had the attitude that "It is my way, the only way,...I don't care what anyone else says I am right."
I would prefer someone with a more open mind.  He might be right, but....

I am really surprised that a Russian, Georgian, Chinese, Polish, Hungarian......X-military guy has not done a definitive work on handling/shooting the AK-47.

I could never endorse GS, that's why I recommended Vickers.  But, as they say to each his own... LAV just doesn't really do videos unless its from his show with Kyle D and Fallah Tactical Impact. I am sure they did an AK segment, but it will be short, but informative... Poke around you might find it.  Also check out the AAR's I mentioned from Vickers, there are some vids of some drills IIRC...

There is wealth of stuff. Problem is that it is not dvd, nor is it in english. I am writing (that is: gathering material from other sources) small booklet on it for a course I run in Funland, and source material is quite plentiful. I think your best bet is to seach for english documentation is Israeli stuff. They have good drills for Galil, which in the end is an AK.

But for simplicity's sake you might want to look into Suarez. 90% of what he teaches is taught the same way here in Europe. Not all his stuff is optimal IMHO, but most is applicable and sound. Especially so if you are looking for civilian side instruction, not military usage. In any case AK is so simple weapon to run that there is very little variation between different basic techniques, you can do things in maybe two or three ways. As an example: modern east bloc way to operate the bold is with left hand under the reciever, and Israeli/Finnish way is over the reciever. Both ways have pros and cons, but in more importantly both are applicable.

I know this thread has been inactive for a while but I decided to post anyways. I'm a tactical AK training enthusiast and I have a free AK training website (www.sapponytactical.com) with a bunch of videos.

If you want to check it out, there is also a feedback portion where you can ask anything specific or request to see a current technique etc.

Or on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/user/SapponyTactical

Jason Falla aka Redback One should be offering his course soon.  John Chapman and LMS Defense have a one day course.  I am thinking of taking the Vickers course myself.
