While a more formal review is long overdue, I just wanted to put in a good word for Rob Pincus' COMBAT FOCUS SHOOTING, available as both a book and a DVD.

Rob Pincus is Director of Operations at the Valhalla Training Center.

Combat Focus Shooting is the intuitive shooting program that is designed to work with what the body and mind do naturally during a dynamic critical incident. This program helps the shooter to learn the “Balance Between Speed & Precision” and use either sighted or unsighted fire as appropriate to get combat-accurate hits efficiently during a lethal force encounter.

Bottomline is you only need to be as "accurate" as necessary to get an 'effective' hit on your target, otherwise you're compromising speed for precision.

Content includes: Working with what the body does naturally, Background and Philosophy of Combat Focus Shooting, Combat (or Defensive) Accuracy, Combat Focus Range Drills, The Critical Incident Reload, Volume of Fire, and The Balance of Speed and Precision.

The book walks you through the fundamentals, and has a great deal of good information about why people react as they do in a high-stress situation such as a gunfight, and works to use those reactions to your advantage. In addition, it has a number of good drills to run through, again to evaluate your balance of "speed vs. precision".

The video further enhances the concepts, and is very professionally done.

I am a big proponent of the concepts taught by Rob, and I enjoyed his book and video enough that I will be sure to attend training at Valhalla soon.

For those looking for more information, check out their site. Rob is a member here and I'm sure would be happy to answer any questions regarding the book/dvd/Valhalla/training.

Hey, Ed.... Thanks much for the recommendation.

Indeed, I am a member here, though not incredibly active.

I am, however, always available by email and will gladly participate in any thread that I stumble upon or find out about!

If it is the same dvd I purchasd through the NRA it is an excellent dvd.

I now take a more systematic approach to practice because of this video.

About 80% now of what I do does not even include shooting, just draw, presentation, high ready position, stepping to the left and right, etc.

It has helped me develop good habits immensely.

Rob is A#1 in my book.

Thanks for the continued interest guys... glad that the material is helping.

We released several new DVDs in '08 and have more ready for release in '09 as well.

Meanwhile, you can catch several segments straight from the curriculum of Combat Focus Shooting and our Advanced Pistol Handling courses on my new TV Show, The Best Defense, on Outdoor Channel's Wednesday evening line-up.

Thanks Again...

I ordered the DVD sort of a "trial run" to see if I liked what I saw- that's the frank truth - I am a 'hard sale' and a bit weary of new training materials.

I received the DVD and watched the entire disk in one setting.  I am sold that Rob Pincus is 'smack on' with the concepts he teaches.

I am a multi-discipline NRA instructor and a State Firearms Instructor.  I am also  am a SWAT operator. I was entirely impressed with the similarity of concepts that Rob taught compared to my own set of skills I have developed, found that worked, and try to teach to those that want/ need them.  There was only one small concept he embraces that I differed with in the entire DVD (and that was not a 'deal breaker" - just personal preference {mag orientation}).

I have ordered the hard copy of the book and also the training log.  I beleive I will order more of his training materials and hope to actually take some classes under his personal tutelage.   I am very impressed with his grasp of the 'overall' and the adaption of time-honored basics incorporated into real world functions.

I recommend his works - without reservation!  Thanks Rob for bringing this concept out on a national level - lives will be saved because of it.  Alan

I had the great fortune to meet and train a little with Rob this past weekend at the North East Shooters Armed Society Summit. Rob is an engaging, charismatic and passionate individual and instructor. His presentation is one of the best I have seen. Beside that Rob is a genuine person and I am glad to now call him a friend. The Combat Focus Shooting system Rob has developed is very well thought out and makes a lot of sense to anyone who takes the time to study the "Why" of what we do during a dynamic critical incident. Personally I will be bringing Rob out to work with myself and my guys here in NY as soon as we can get schedules straight.
