You would be suprised to know how many gun owners have no idea what the OODA Loop is. I get the standard I'll just shoot him response. I have a few drills that show the uninformed just how stupid that one statement is.
One is the Tuler drill and another is how to defeat a gun already pointed at you. |

Brother thats why we have little pistols under our avatars.
I totally agree. To explain it the best I love to show video of the officer pulling a guy over and he ask how much have you had to drink, and the guy says plenty. He pulls a large revolver out and it goes click and then a shot at the officer. New officers are like WTF. You can see the officer going through his OODA then draw and return fire. They guy drives off and runs into a telephone pole. Awesome. |

Whats the round count for the course? |

I have 2 different types I designed to roll on flat ground/grass/ gravel. One will only roll in a straight line, either right to left or front to rear and can handle a paper or steel plate. The other is built on a furniture dolly and can move it any direction and they way I set it up we can change directions with it. both are pulled using rope and pulleys from Home Depot or Lowes. The round count is 400

Does your OODA differ depending on whether or not you have someone else you're protecting? When I go through a scenario with just myself, I can come up with multiple options for moving/moving to cover etc. But when I go through the same scenario but with my wife next to me, all I can think to do is stand in front of her and try to pop the guy in one shot in the head. And hope the other guy would be a bad shot. |

Well since a major factor in a gun fight is not getting shot; some type of movement to get of the line of fire is important. I would teach the wife to move as well. Imagine the bad guy comes up and both of you split and move to different directions. There will be a few seconds of him thinking "WTF" and what do I do now. You just busted his OODA Loop. Now add the fact that he turns toward one of you and he is looking down the barrel or feeling the impact of a well placed round.
We have tried this with force on force and it works. It is possible to beat the tueller drill if you get of the line of fire first. By first I mean make the bad guy react to your movement. Not try to out draw him, that usually results in a tie where both of you get shot within the same fraction of a second. |
