I looked around for a good place to post this.......

I am looking to make a new target stand for my shooting range up north.   I am going to be building an overhead beam structure that will allow plates to be hung from it.

I am looking to find out if there are any special types of steel that should be used. (something to withstand punishment better than others)

My plans are that these plates will not be for high powered rifle but more for handgun and small rifle.  Hopefully the bullets will not destroy them that way.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

action targets

These guys have some pretty good targets at good prices, and I've only seen good things.

3/8" AR400 will stand up to pistol rounds extremely well.

Get it cut with holes in where you want them and hang the targets with S hooks on cheap poly rope -just keep the rope behind the impact side out of the splash.

You will be surprised how resilient to hits the hooks are; they just pop out and fall (usually) just a foot or two away.  Paint them bright orange if you like.

Everyone want to use chain and carriage bolts but when hit they are substantially damaged, difficult to deal with, leave sharp edges, and are much more expensive than rope.
