Hi Guys, Just got a Colt Match Competition Target HBAR II. Interested in competitions. What better way to interact with other shooters & learn from veteran shooters than competitions? I know I cant compete in CMP...what are other possibilities. I have a 16" 1/9 barrel, factory A2 iron sights, no flash hider, no adjustable stock & no bayonet mount if that matters. Thanks |

What is it that you are looking for, what type of competitions specifically? You already know that your rifle is not CMP ready. However you could put a RRA NMA2 upper and a good two stage trigger in and join in the CMP fun. If you have a shotgun and a pistol you could grab the rifle as is and try three gun matches. |

There is the NRA highpower competitions that you can compete in. If your rifle does not meet the service rifle definition (nearly the same as CMP) then you can compete in the match rifle class. The course of fire is very similar to the CMP, but you are allowed (almost required) two sighter shots per stage. Some reduced matches might allow more or fewer sighters at the beginning, however. The typical matches are either the Regional course, or the National Match course. The Regional is 80 record shots: 20 standing at 200yds slowfire, 20 sitting at 200yds rapid, 20 prone rapid at 300yds, and 20 prone slow at 600. The National match is 10 shots at each stage except 600yds prone slow. There you shoot 20 rounds. I'd suggest google with the key words Highpower, Rifle, NRA, New Jersey, and see what local matches are available. Also, don't forget any nearby areas that you are willing to drive to. The minimum required gear that you will need for the NRA competitions is the rifle, ammo, shooting sling, a shooting mat (a carpet), a spotting scope (binoculars will work) and shooting stool/chair. Much of the equipment, you might be able to borrow. Many competitors carry an extra spotting scope and other equipment with them. Gear that you will want to acquire for the highpower matches is a cart, heavy shooting coat, a 20" A-2 match upper or a space gun upper with sights, and a good spotting scope and stand. |
