I was wondering if any of you have a routine you do before you shoot? I have been shooting IDPA about a year and I keep track of my scores. I have been noticing I shoot best on the last 2 or half of the matches. I have about an hour drive to get there and usually get there early to help set up or shoot if I can. Much appreciate input.

Are you looking for things we do before the match begins, or what we do between the time we're "on deck" shooter and the start beep?

before. 19 of my 20 points down were my first 2 stages. I know I need to work on off hand more but seems to be a pattern for me on the first 2 stages.

Try getting warmed up before the match.  Jog a little, do jumping jacks, practice your draw and trigger press in the safe area, etc.

You need to figure out if you perform better with some adrenaline pumping or from a dead calm.
Most people do better if they have their heart rate slightly elevated before the beep. That can come a from a few jumping jacks or jogging to the parking lot or back if it helps.

I usually need a stage or 2 to get my act together as well. However I know my issues are mostly mental.

I'm sure it is mostly mental. The first few stages from last time seems I am looking or thinking of where I am shooting while shooting and not hitting rather than shoot and move.

It's not uncommon to "warm up" as you progress through the match.

It's a skillset like any other that has to be trained and cultivated to make your cold runs as good as your warmed up runs.

Do you have a dry fire program?

Yes I do practice my draw, line of sight and fire at home pretty often (at least once a week usually) Just thought I would see if there was anything specific people did before starting. I didn't get there in time to shoot this time and the long ride can be pretty tough on my old body which takes a while to limber up these days especially my back. I will definitely try and get there earlier.
