Does anyone want to talk about the IDPA rulebook changes?
Looks like they did away with round dumping, but may have added flat footed reloads behind cover. They also put XD's in SSP, but also changed the classifier so it almost isn't worth it to shoot SSP. You can now have different extractors in SSP. They also haven't changed the power factor for the basic revolver group, nor did they do anything with people that wanted to shoot full power .40 & 10mm. They have to dog it out with the 9mm's. You can read the rulebook and suggested changes on the IDPA site, have to be a member to log in. |

I would love the pistol light ruling changed... They really do need to run a class where as long as you can conceal it, you can use it. A lot of people carry with lights and lasers now. I wish they would just combine the revolver classes, allow anything that meets the power floor to shoot in CDP, and turn ESP into guns that are ACTUALLY enhanced, not just stippled single action guns. |

Are you still limited to 10rd mags? Yes, which obviously isn't a real world scenario for everyone, but to me it makes a lot of sense. You can force people to be adept at reloading without having to gun down a dozen targets first, plus it makes it so there isn't an equipment race. Without a limit people would only use guns that have the highest capacity or would always be trying to "game" their mags to hold the most amount of ammo and fit in the box. |

My biggest complaint with IDPA is not having a site like USPSA and having a "qualifying stage" at every match. I don't care for the "qualifiers" as they are ran.
The .40 and 10mm stuff should have been addressed. A lot of people shoot those and get smoked by 9s. (Of course there are some who don't. ) All the time and trouble to have teams to review the rules and they didn't address some of these items. I sent in some suggestions... but, oh well. It is still fun. |

I think that is rubbish considering the way some stages are set up, but I can see how a plate rack wouldn't make sense in a "real world" defense scenario. |

A lot of those targets are great for "standards" stages. Even on a scenario stage, the small steel targets demand a higher level of accuracy that isn't needed to hit a big cardboard target that's directly facing you. If we're trying to develop shooting skills for the "real world" - the higher level of accuracy we attain, the better. Not to mention the amount of money individual clubs have spend on plate racks and Texas Stars. I can imagine the novelty targets getting completely out of hand (although I've never seen it happen - and I've shot a lot of matches at a lot of different clubs) but they could've come up with a way to keep it under control without banning everything outright. |

I completely agree with you. Steel is the only thing we've really got that is "reactive". I think they should have encouraged people to be more creative with steel rather than banning certain elements outright and being more strict in it's usage. But banging through a plate rack and shooting a spinning texas star are just shooting 5 or 6 targets that are in the same spot certainly does go against the IDPA fundamentals. But then I have never seen someone pivot wildly back and forth in front of me while I shoot people behind them either... A lot of the other targets they banned either because of size, or unfortunately it seems also because other action shooting sports have become popular that use them a lot .

They're just banning all of the other fun targets. |

I don't know that I ever considered a Texas Star fun. I beat the pants off everyone else in a stage with a Texas Star once. I'm no pro, but I got a lot of back slaps and attaboys for that one. |

R8. All reloads must be performed behind cover; however, a shooter, who runs the firearm empty while in the open, may initiate an Emergency Reload while advancing to the next position of cover. R9.1. If the shooter runs the firearm empty behind cover, the shooter may not advance in the stage (move toward the next shooting position) until the weapon is deemed loaded.

Most of those targets arn't pratical but whats up with the IDPA pratice target? Is that a steel target? |

Yep, the IDPA practice target is just the paper version.
When we used to break out the Texas Star people would bitch and cry about it. Eventually they realized it's not really a hard target. Now most of them are comfortable shooting it. Isn't getting better at shooting the whole point of IDPA? |

In my experience it is because they don't want to learn something new and it is frustrating to get your ass kicked by a target. I think IDPA is great for getting people on the range but think they are only hurting themselves with a lot if the restrictions they have both old and new |
