God I came in Dead last tonight during IDPA, WTF?!
I was 4th in my times & Dead last on my points down, anyone else have a day like this? Guess it's another long session of dry fire & sight placement. We also had an AD tonight, guy dropped the mag on his 1911 & didn't index before pulling on the slide. (scary shit) |

You were going too fast and not seeing you sights. Can't miss fast enough to win. Hit the range and get your confidence back up. Waaaay too fast!, the sight picture was a blur. I get so amped up right before a string, need to work on some breathing techniques to bring it back to a normal level. |

Quite worrying about anything but shooting zeros. Don't worry about time, score, who just shot, or anything else. Just put hits on the zero down zone. If you need to, shoot makeup shots to get zero down. Shoot 3 matches this way then try to speed up a bit. Learn how fast you can go while still shooting zeros. Accept maybe one -1 per stage, AFTER you have shot a match clean. Your sights are your speedometer. If you don't have a good sight picture, don't break the shot. There are times for shooting fast and there are times for slowing down. The pros know when to do each. Re. breathing, take at least 3 deep breaths before the "shooter ready". If you are not ready, tell the SO you are not ready. Learn to breath at the correct times during the stage, ie. when you are not shooting (moving, reloading, etc.). Gringop |

Even on a std 1911. I can't recall using the sights. Our IDPA matches are like 7 yards and under. +1 I got used to shooting anything within 5 yds w/o sights... simply pointing the gun and shooting, I shoot IPSC but the ideas still the same... you'd be suprised how much faster you can go if you learn to aim with the gun not with the sites... I consistantly hit alphas and headshots within 5 yds w/o using sights. Go to the range and practice drawing and taking two quick shots, use your sights, and then slowly begin using them less and less, you will be suprised that you can actually point aim a gun pretty well for close targets, and your grouping will be pretty tight as well... Just draw point and two quick shots. Mike. |

I think the guys who shoot several thousand rounds a year just feel their way through it, I've seen guys turn the gun without looking & hit Zeros. Dangerous & I wouldn't do it, but damn impressive. Actually, the guys who shoot the most tend to learn to see their sights faster. What looks like shooting too fast to see the sights to some is actually just really fast aiming. |

The sights don't have to be perfect up close. 25 yard head shots, yeah slow down. up close slap the trigger and have fun. |

1. Chamber check all ammo. 2. after your done w/ a stage reload all your mags. Take them all off the belt and load each one. only full ones get put back in the pouches. Chamber checked 500 round a week ago, must have missed the High Primers. Moral of the story, if you've worked all day & think your too tired to shoot IDPA, You are.

I do not catch all of them. All the ammo the fails the chamber check goes into my practice ammo. of those 99% feed with no problems. I chamber checked another 400 today so I'm hoping this weekend will be a a better shoot than Monday night. That bunch on Monday night have a Holier than Thou attitude,I've stopped complimenting them. |

What exactly is chamber checking? NOOB |

2 ways.
on your reloaded ammo you 1. drop each and every round into your pulled barrel. If the round fits its good to go. 2. purchase a chamber check guage (dillion) and drop each round into that. If the rim base of the brass is flush with the top of the guage the ammo will work in any chamber of the same cailber. Any that are slightly high may still work, but that ammo goes into my pratice bag. the Dillion as well as other chamber check guages are built to min dimensions on the chamber. eta link dillon precision |
those damn hands!!!
