| Seeing that in California you cant have Hi-cap mags or XDm's. Would they be allowed in the state for a competition like IDPA ect? I've always wondered as all my XD cases say not legal in California. |

Well first of all, hicap mags are legal in California, if you live here and had them before the ban. :)
The XDm is also legal if you moved here and owned it prior to doing so. If you're visiting for a competition, you can bring your XDm. Leave the hi-caps at home if you're really concerned about LE intervention, but NO ONE is waiting at the border or airports to put you in jail. If you're really concerned buy some 10-rounders (I'm sure they're out there) and use those for your match, but I'm here to tell you...unless you're doing something else stupid, no one's going to care. First, my understanding of IDPA was that you couldn't load more than 10 rounds into a magazine.
You're saying that you don't have 10-round magazines, and want to know if you can bring your normal-cap mags into CA? [I'm not a lawyer, so don't take this as legal advice, just legal information] If you were able to keep the magazines from holding more than 10 rounds (put something under the follower to limit how far into the mag it can go, you should be OK. If you were to bring "hi-cap" magazines into the state, you may theoretically be protected by an exemption to the hi-cap rules for shooting competitors visiting from out of state. That exemption would probably be ignored by any DA, but if you did decide to break the law, you might be able to get the charges dropped for only $20k or so. |
| I guess you can use any other ar thats featureless, no pistol grip, tele stock, flash hider and legally use old high cap mags. or do what I do use a bullet button type of lock and as long as the rifle isnt banned you can have whatever on it, as long as you use a 10 rd mag. websites sell plastic blocks to put in mags to make into a 10 rd, if its only temp just use wood, and rivet the floor plate. Ive given up on the ar with 223 and now only shoot 22lr from it, your allowed to use old high caps and the mag release with it. |

Well...given that he's asking about a pistol that post was useless.
He does bring up one good point. Arredondo accessories sells (or used to sell) a spacer block for hi-caps to be able to be inserted in to a full cap mag so that it only held ten. Not a bad idea actually. If I recall the floor plate on the XDm's are removable. A simple block of wood, plastic or delrin would do the trick. PM with questions. Rich |
