As the subject says, looking for what are good spectator events at Camp Perry.
I was there a couple of weeks ago for the ORPA/CMP HIghpower Clinic and would like to learn/observe more and check out the vendors on Commercial Row. Thanks |

Highpower Rifle doesn't lend itself to being a spectator sport unless you have a good spotting scope and a knowledgeable person to give you a running description of what you're seeing.
As a wife of a shooter that was taken to a Highpower match once said: "I see why it's called BIG BORE". |

Sir, IMHO highpower is definitely not a spectator sport. I've always described it as about as interesting as watching grass grow. Although my wife has accompanied me to many local matches she generally reads and does crossword puzzles while I shoot. About the most interesting spectator friendly event during the National Matches highpower phase is the P100 shoot off. As I recall the top twenty shooters in the P100 participate in a shoot off and they have score keepers with large displays that show the shot placement for each shooter for all to see while the shooting is in progress. If you've never seen it, it is interesting to watch. Vendor's row is a shooters shopping mecca. The vendors will have everything both new or experienced shooters could want. Be aware some of the vendors pack up and leave after CMP week. HTH, 7zero1.

| Yes, attend the President's Match shoot off. You will see twenty of the finest service rifle shooters in action. They make shooting the center out of the 600yd target look easy. When it is over you may meet, congratulate, and take a picture with each one of them. |

It so excites the Highpower world that almost no competitors who aren't actually in the shoot off have better things to do than watch it. |

I assumed that it's going to be pretty boring to watch and was hoping there may be some event that is a little more interesting than others. Will check out the P100 shoot off if we can. Thanks for the replies! She could shoot at the CMP Air Rifle range. Pickup matches that cost very little with rental rifles coupled with awards trinkets. All shot in AC. What's not to like? |

You can easily make a day at camp perry. See all the vendors on commercial row, don't forget the NRA memorabilia store behind commercial row facing the ranges. Go to the cmp store and look at racks of garands for sale. They have tours, take advantage of one. The marksmanship center is a world class indoor air rifle range with electronic scoring. You can rent a very nice air rifle and shoot very inexpensively.
Good luck. |
