Pretty simply put, does anyone else here shoot them at Camp Perry?

I am not talking about bipods or bags, just prone at 1000 yards.

I have before.  You can learn a lot from it.

If I have the vacation time to stay for NRA and long range weeks I'll bring a purpose-built .308 Palma rifle with 28" barrel and iron sights.  When I first started the first three or four years I brought an iron-sighted M1A to shoot in Service Rifle class.

You don't need a fancy or expensive rifle –– it can be done with a few modifications, good sights, good handloads, and a good spotting scope.

I have shot them. Years ago. Maybe I'll get back into it in a couple of years.

Sir, FWIW I've shot the LR course at CP a few times.  Is there a particular question you have regarding the LR matches?  7zero1 out.

I have one. Are all the matches iron sights matches or are there scope matches as well?

I have been wondering if I might see other arfcom members there and if anyone was, might be interested in shooting a team match.

They do have an any sights class to for some of the 1k matches also.

During the Long-Range championship some matches are Iron sights and some are Any sights. Which match you fire in depends on what type of rifle you are firing.

  • On Saturday there are two 1000 yd. matches. One is with irons and the other is any sights.

  • On Sunday there are actually three individual matches that are fired at the same time. If you are shooting an Any rifle and iron sights you will compete in the Leech Cup. If you are shooting a service rifle you will compete in the Porter Trophy. If you are shooting a Palma rifle you will compete in the Andrus Trophy. All of these have the same course of fire of 20 shots at 1000yd. The Roumanian team match is also fired on that day.

  • On Monday there are again three individual matches at the same time depending on rifle. The Wimbledon Cup is for Any sights, the Farr Trophy is for service rifles, and the Aiken trophy is for Palma rifles. The Herrick team match is fired on Monday as well.

  • On Tuesday is the Palma Individual match. While any type of rifle can shoot on that day, only a Palma rifle or service rifle is used to compete for the trophy.

  • On Wednesday are the Palma course team matches.
