Just received a set of Fulton Armory sight protectors.  Plan on using them on my Rock River NM upper.  The rear cover will not close do to the sight hood.  Do I have to flip up the aperature to use the cover?  Does flipping up the aperature cause any undue wear and tear?

Thanks,

Eric

I would not flip up my site. Just one more thing that could go wrong. If they are the black clam shell style covers you can cut way some of the extra plastic inside the cover to clear your hood.

I'd ditch the hood. On an M-14 or M1 the hood acted as a way to get 1/2 minutes. The hood was needed because you needed something to grip with your fingers. I'm not really sure how they got started on ARs, unless it was the notion that the M-14s and M-1s had hoods, so the M-16 should as well. Unless your using a Bob Jones lens, I don't really think they are needed.

The added benefit of getting rid of the thing is that you wont scratch the hell out of your shooting glasses. The RRA hood seems as long as the Stanford Linear Accelerator. Completely foolish and no need for something like that IMO.

I screwed the RRA hood into the front of the sight to see if it would work and it does.  I know the diameter of the peep may seem smaller as its farther away but my peep was a bit on the large side and it works for me.  Maybe I'll try a Jones lens but it will be installed backwards to work, we'll see.
